I have over 20 years experience bargaining on both sides of the table. I hate to burst bubbles but unions in their current form are a huge scam. It's all theater. They strive to do the bare minimum required so they appear to justify the dues paid. I've never seen negotiations get even mildly heated. They all start with the company outlining where they need to be followed by discussions about what the union thinks they need and what they think they can sell membership on to get there. Negotiations are usually catered. There is usually a selection of the best liquors. A few have had fine cigars available.
Your dues mainly go to pay the very people who are duping you. They pay for the illusion of protection and support.
They are very good at what they do so do not feel shame at being duped.

What is the purpose of union again and how it benefits Verizon? There are more non-union Verizon employees so why do we have pockets of union employees remaining?
