Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

New CEO means layoffs

Don’t delude yourselves into thinking this might be different. There’s no such thing as an employee-positive CEO. They’re all beholden to shareholders, even those few who don’t think about their own pockets first. The only question right now is how drastic the cuts will be.

@ce I don't think the 25% is worth it. I left in December and now my cell bill for two phones is more than what I would pay on Puretalk, Visible, or Mint. In the process of switching to Visible..will save me about $50 a month with unlimited data.

This all smacks of, we couldn't find someone from our bench to take over so we had to pull in someone from the board. It all really points to Stratton who was passed over for Hans and went to run Frontier. I suspect he'll be the one taking over once the desk is done and Hans is actually gone in October of next year.

It will really be a big F U from Stratton if it happens that way.

@aa Listen to the Up To Speed replay. Dan mentioned that he's had the job for 7 hours. Up To Speed ran at 11 AM ET. That means the board voted at 4 AM Monday morning.

@ay confused how woke is even in the conversation? DEI was removed, remember? Verizon agreed to the Trump Administration demand so they could complete the merger constructed by the FCC. So, Verizon has actually moved from ‘woke’ at the beginning of the year. Now I’m done with the silliness. Verizon never was ‘woke’ because it always donated to both parties. It always stayed neutral as do all the carriers. They’re not political they’re financial. Neither Hans or Dan will care about political ideology just results and they’ll do whatever they need to do. So layoffs, price increases and other things will likely occur. I just hope Dan brings more understanding of the front line with having that skill. Hans was more financial and all those around him had financial background degrees. We need someone now with customer service experience like the old days with Lowell and Charlie. Perhaps internal. We have a ton or retail ideology pushing sales but not enough customer service focus. New hires are sales targeted and we don’t need more of that, we need more customer service focus. We have a lot of outsourced positions and nothing wrong with that but they lack training and that’s hurting the company. Language barriers and poor training. Every company has it but just can’t push premium things on a beer serving staff. Let retail be retail and customer service be service. Also, please leave all politics out of things. I don’t have much of an opinion on Sampath, however I thought he would be CEO because if you saw the last meeting with Hans we have a high population of employees from with India background so I assumed perhaps that was a thing. Anyways, all administrations need to get out of our business and we need to focus on winning our customers back.

For Verizon folks that were given packages, or just retired, is it really worth staying for 25% off? I use some of the streaming apps with adds. Thinking of switching. Pros and cons ? Is Visible a good option

Verizon Board historically hires in house. Yet a 67 yr old replacement on Oct 6th tells you Q3 results will be a disaster and legacy will be how DEI destroyed a top Networking company. Biggest issue all those Director/Mgmt DEI hires remain… so need a giant flush. New CEO needs to lead and focus on resukts and not his social agenda!

@aa warnings will be bad. Hans lost 380k subs in 6 months. VZ needed someone different to deliver the news of the continued downward spiral. I guess giving away iPhones didn’t stop the subscriber exodus.

Just listen to all of the communications so far…

“We have to deliver for the shareholders and “We’ll have to make hard decisions”

Better update your resume!

But, the real question is, what did Hans do to pi-s the board off enough to get kicked to the curb? It’s obvious this CEO change wasn’t planned. I mean, you don’t dump the CEO this close to an earning report!?!

@OP so are you saying that it’ll be status quo (ie different CEO, same old ish with layoffs, etc), or are you saying with this new CEO it can even be worse?

If it’s the former, I’m pretty sure not many people are that delusional to think that this is a major turnaround for the better. But if you think it’s worse? Please elaborate.

I sure hope not. I make an outstanding salary but have zero skills. I don’t really want to flip burgers for a living.
