I work in the BU in Dallas and last week we had hundreds of people laid off but I haven’t seen any exact numbers or big news outlets talking about this at all… I feel like this was a very dramatic cut but I’m confused why the media isn’t talking about that and instead they’re talking about the much smaller December layoffs…

@at STFU and focus on your job. Add on the extra work and responsibilities of the people that were layed off but don’t ask for a raise in compensation. Also, we wont be adjusting the number of new products we’re working on we need to report the right number of new product releases to our managers.
@aj i've heard that they have to report layoffs for the manufacturing side since federal funding is tied to it, e.g. CHIPS act, etc. i might be wrong though
Yeah, you’re not wrong — this round was much larger in impact but way quieter publicly. What’s likely happening is TI (and a lot of big companies lately) are structuring the layoffs in a way that keeps them below federal and state WARN thresholds, so they don’t have to issue public notices or trigger media coverage.
Under the federal WARN Act, companies only have to announce if they lay off 50+ people at a single site within 30 days, or 500+ total, depending on the structure. So if they spread it out — say, 30 here, 40 there, 25 next week — it technically doesn’t meet the requirement for public disclosure.
It’s legal, but it also means hundreds of people can lose their jobs without the public ever seeing a “mass layoff” headline. That’s why you’ll see articles about smaller December rounds (those were publicly filed) but not this one. TI’s likely keeping it under the radar through timing and site-by-site segmentation.
@at crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. Entire remote sites were shut down. NCGs and MTSes were let go. Never assume that you're safe and prep accordingly.
@at My, aren’t you bossy? We lost some good people, hoss. Folks are trying to make sense out of it all. Keep ‘er calm, or I’ll sick Miss Kitty on you. But, we get your point.
Stop being over dramatic. If you got laid off, you got a good package and you can decide when and how you’ll job search. If you are still at TI, STFU and focus on keeping your job, otherwise you are next.
100% underreported, that's for sure. The public narrative is being controlled, as usual.
I'm also pretty confused about this. Are the rules different for manufacturing as opposed to office-oriented roles?
Also, how were the layoffs from earlier this year handled? Were they TMG specific? I can't remember
