Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

November Resume Ready? Red Flags!!!

This is the favorite time of the year for Staples “holiday greetings” through November layoffs.

Get ready to be ready, it will be about cutting the staff, cost, manager preference, or last hard first fired.

Update your résumé, pay for it if you can NOW and circulate!

Connect with recruiters and send the hiring managers your resume directly through Linkedin or company email.

Pick out the top 10 companies (maybe 20-40), and start networking now.

I have a great track record over the last decade plus. I have gotten a raise for exceeding or meeting expectation every year . Several of those years have been exceeding, but I’m not going to wait. I have never seen it this bad.

When the layoffs happen, I noticed that my workload increases, but it doesn’t equal out to financial compensation if they were to hire a person to do it full-time! I refuse to be cheap labor for more time than I have to.

Most who leave Staples are compensated MORE and are less stressed.

Good luck, stay strong, be proactive!

I am neither HR, nor SLT. Just an underling. I am by no means saying there won't be a mass layoff NEXT November, but this November there is nothing of consequence. Every two years sounds about right in my experience. There were layoffs two straight Novembers so we are due for an off year. 2023 was bad, 2024 was worse, and 2025 has been decent. If something does happen, I will come back and say that I was wrong :)

Typical HR or SLT response. Doing well by Staples standards and Staples has been laying off depts or mass layoffs since new ownership. So don’t worry? It’s not a mass layoff just depts here and there. Those are lives impacted by your poor strategy and lack of leadership. Mass layoffs come every two years like clockwork has been happening for years and then in the revolving years you let go in drips and drabs. It’s all bad and no one feels safe at this company except the fat cats at the top that make the big bonuses. There are packages in play and yea you may not hear about it but they do add up.

The company is actually doing well (by Staples standards) and last year's layoff was significant enough to allow for no layoffs this year. Could there be a few in random departments? Yes. But it will be a ripple that most people in the company will not see.

We do this every year. Why are people surprised?

This is no way to live... Ultimately none of us have control over the closed door plans of a big corporation. Focus on doing your job well and what you can control. What will be will be (if anything), but this weird paranoia is going to rob you of your happiness. Life is simply too short for that. Every single bit of this rhetoric is speculation. Focus on positive things if only for your happiness. Take this energy and apply it to your craft.
Pure logic.. better life

Fall is over Winter is coming. There will be layoffs even if you call it a reorg and do it in smaller segments. Already started and more planned. Packages are being discussed. Stop lying. And if your lips are moving we know all lies.

@aj you must be new! I have been here for 15 years and since 2019 I have stuck it out. I have paid to have my resume updated and look forward to reviewing the draft.

Proactive not reactive!

@aj I am NOT SLT and proud of it.

I care about myself, my family, my career and my coworkers. SLT only cares about the bottom line and their bonuses!

However you may be connected to SLT so you do not lose those who you may need to stay to support your position or increase your workload.

There will be more cuts. There will be more reorgs.Plans and packages are being pulled together.Has already begun and you can expect families and holidays to suffer during the holidays while the fat cats at the top get fatter on their power and their bonuses. Ready to read the scripts SLT?

@OP reality is some may not be paid more or have less stress but what you will have is control back on you making the decisions to stay or go if you perform and not being at the mercy of this company that doesn’t value the vast majority of their employees and truly treat you like a number that can be called at any time to exit the company. Layoffs and reorganizations is the only thing this company uses to drive the bottom line and put off the inevitable. There is no plan that has worked and as long as the top are getting paid no one’s family or sanity matters below them. Period. Yes take that advice above.

Could this be SLT posting so employees can leave on their own and not pay them severance?
