Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Can someone please explain the CTO thing to me?

Does he actually work there? What does he do? Other than talk about Burning Man. Seriously, I worked there for years and no one could explain it to me.

SM is keeping him around because SB made him believe he can help win the SAP lawsuit. But TDC will never win that. Even if they get a settlement it will not impact operating income or ARR. He was good back in the late 90s with MPP. but missed every major industry move since then.

The answer in post @pkw+1k6QPjC2is correct.

The CTO is just a marketing role. He is a contractor and he is not an employee.

He has no org that reports to him.

CXO salaries are public. All you have to do is read the SEC reports.

Give the guy a break. He talked about Burning Man just once and that has stuck to him like a fly-trap. 😁

His mission is to visit all countries in the world, speaking at random conferences with the same rehashed material.

I wish TD publishes salaries of CXOs so that we can judge whether he is working/traveling enough to make it worth it.

Contractor CTO who "missed the boat" on cloud while globe-trotting on company funds. Hasn't had any real impact on tech direction in some time. Does enough to not get fired (isn't that about everyone from Director on up?) but nothing more. Double thumbs-down.

A guy supporting sales with good communications skills and enough technical knowledge to talk to customer execs. CTO title lets him open doors to C-level people and be taken seriously. In other words, travelling performer playing a role of a visionary CTO.
