Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

Replacing us with AI?

Anyone heard about this? Is it true they are looking at this and will replace roles globally?

Interesting thing I read on the Dell layoffs page:

While AI is genuinely replacing some jobs—particularly in content moderation, customer service, and IT support—corporations are also using the technology as a convenient narrative to mask cost-cutting and labor exploitation. Unemployment among U.S. computer engineering graduates has tripled in a year, and many new graduates are struggling to secure entry-level roles that have been systematically reduced.

@kg It's funny when every other department has an AI app and it still looks like dog sh-t. Why can't AI help these geniuses get better with that?

AI is a massive corporate failure. Huge percentage of capex n ver result in any tangible shift to the bottom line. Most companies are laying folks off on AI promises and then needing to rehire. Fiserv in particular is not very successful with their homegrown AI tools. Also let’s not forgot AI really doesn’t exist as anything impressive, it’s just automation, like every company has seen. I predict most of the AI success will come with code automation or conversion/migration supporting tools. It will replace man hours, but only super tedious and boring stuff. It’s also good at fluffing up verbal garbage, so maybe if you work sales or marketing you could be replaced, but anyone providing genuine value is not at risk.

Every 8 months they create a new team and name it something like Comet looking to do automation. They get into the weeds and figure it can’t be done and they disappear only with the “rocket” team to say they have some new innovative idea: automation. If comet, rocket, and starship can’t figure out how to automate, what chance does AI?

Use AI to get through the Fiserv fluff, reviews and goals.

I don't know of any company not doing this. I support this. There are so many things here that would be better automated. There's enough work for people to be redistributed into other tasks.

So much manual work can and should be automated and would lead to better outcomes for all.

If they aren't then we will continue to bleed clients and lose jobs anyway. Just for a more unnecessary reason.

According to many prominent scientists in AI such as Eliezer Yudkowsky and Geoffrey Hinton, its not likely humanity will make it to 2035 due to AI

The company is investing a lot in AI. In fact, they had a company-wide competition where people presented automation ideas. There's a whole AI development group. AI is becoming more sophisticated and fast. Within the next two years, many roles will be replaced with AI except probably sales and the tech savvy folks.

This is true. In GBS, we've been told directly by a middle manager that they want AI to automate a ton of functions. This also includes using AI for customer service and reducing the amount of humans in the role.

Nobody likes speaking to an automated system in any capacity. Fiserv thinks this is the way, but this was also months before Frank was tapped for the SSA role.

Using AI in a customer facing capacity in merchant processing is asinine. Merchants are already frustrated with poor customer service as it is.

For other roles, they want to use AI to eliminate redundancies. I get that, however you can't rely on AI to change protocols on a dime as issues crop up.
