Just curious what kind of roles people are getting post Dell layoff? Are these roles in sales, marketing, IT support, software dev....? Just curious. I can honestly say in software development, the skills required for new roles contain tools that we did not use at Dell, especially in ISG.

I took an identical position at an orange competitor and ended up getting a very large bump in salary. The job is much better because support is actually available and the people care. It was a very refreshing change for me but was scary for sure. After spending 20+ years with EMC then Dell I can say the new company is like EMC of about 2003. Of course they are having growing pains but they still treat the employees with respect and believe in customer service. It is a very refreshing experience now and I am happy to have been laid off in 2023. I hadn't applied for an external roll in many years so it took time to navigate the new hiring process and I had over 100 resumes sent out but I was employed within about 2 months. There were 4 job offers in that time so I was able to choose which company I felt comfortable with and I think I made the correct choice. Just remember, even if Dell does not think you are worth keeping on you could still be performing your role well and other companies will recognize that. It is a tough job market right now but you are a human and are capable of doing great things. Someone will recognize that and you will likely come out of a Dell separation in a better place. Even my spouse says I am better to be around now because I am not stressed with no support every day and having customers complain to me because Dell does not support them like they once did. I even cover one of my prior customers and they regularly mention how much better the support is with my new company. No politics or blame comments in this reply so stay positive and know there are better things available if you end up in the same situation. NOTE I was not on a PIP and had FE or CE on most reviews so this was an unexpected layoff at the time.
@fg Nope. Cyber jobs are all over the place :D
@gr care to share?
@fg nope, I wasn't in sales.
seems like just sales folks are finding new jobs.
I was in sales at Dell and became close to a VAR partner in a deal I was working. I was actively looking to leave Dell and asked my contact there for a referral. Their office was 10 minutes from my house vs 45 minute+ daily commute to Hopkinton
Needless to say, being at a partner is great. A lot of my Dell knowledge carried over, and there's other technologies of other companies to learn. Only thing is that I've spent a while unlearning the BS we were fed at Dell - things like Powerstore being just okay and Data Domain being a dinosaur in the backup industry
Haven't looked back once. There's greener pastures out there for sure
Similar but better mgmt role at a healthy company that treat people like people.
idk but i do know that if i were ever let go, i'd have zero issue finding a new job within a month or two.

@aw Imagine not being able to understand a basic sentence of a language that English is literally derived from.
This (amongst other reasons) is why the rest of the world laughs at America.

Software development is a dead career in America. Time to pick up a broom.
I'm anticipating a total career change, something trade related.
