Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Training department layoffs

Today, myself and several of my colleagues in Learning and development were laid off in a round of “reorg.” This was the third reorg in 3 years. They had announced a reorg over a month ago, but when executives were asked about layoffs during a meeting, they evaded the question. Today, they also refused to disclose how many people were affected.

This company is absurd. Every October, they conduct layoffs. The executives should be the ones laid off.

Im still waiting to hear about the severance package. Anyone know?

@1j0 All Training Program Owners 2 and a mix of other roles throughout the department including some managers. They said the TPO 2 was no longer a needed role within the organization.

@1ea
Warn notices are based on the number of people let go.

Sorry to all those affected. CVS has been doing this for years now. I left a year ago. Took a little time off, then jumped back in the workforce and I make $15k more per year than I did as a trainer for a role that’s a lot less work. I know it may not feel like it right now but this may end up being a huge blessing for you all. There are many companies that offer a lot more than Aetna/CVS. Good luck to you all

Condolences to those impacted by this latest round of layoffs at CVS Health/Aetna. I was lucky to find a new role during the 2023 layoffs and luckily my position is still safe in 2025, for now. Who knows what the future will bring.
Anyway, when I was targeted for termination in 2023, CVS mailed a paper letter with information to my house. As well as a "packet" that contained severance information, etc. So, you will eventually receive this information. It just takes time. Polish up your resume and try to find a new role either in another dept within CVS Health or outside CVS Health. Do not wait until your termination date to find a new job. Many of my fellow colleagues that were terminated in 2023 are still unemployed after 2 years of being terminated from CVS Health. So, it's a tough job market out there! Best of luck!

I was also affected and executive leadership basically decided certain roles/job titles were no longer needed.

They didn't care about your performance or tenure, if you had the title/role, you were cut. Such poor leadership and decision making.

It affected both CVS and Aetna employees across the entire L&D department.

We were also told that more layoffs are coming to other parts of the business and we were just the first to fall.

The decisions were made by the “new executive leadership.”

@f4 opinion on this is that when we merged with Aetna, Caremark side was really bought out by Aetna. There was so much positive stride post sanction years ago. When we merged after all the sanction hub bub and fixes of sanctions and lessons learned... Aetna had no clue. We had to go back in time and repeat mistakes of sanction with merger. Aetna leaders were stifling history. They pulled experts off projects that indicated this past history and made us repeat. Leaders who fought this were told its a new time and as mentioned exited from projects that included development of LD 'N' starting system. Our teams we supported didnt matter. Aetna became the most powerful but had no Intel on what caused sanctions and what got us out. They didn't care. They felt almighty. They forced process on us that didn't meet Caremark needs. At the same time began pushing out knowledgeable personnel out to ensure their retention. Full circle what we knew at sanction sans Aetna to have advanced, they put us back to sanction) lay off state. So LD is repeating worst times at long term at knowledgeable team member expenses to assure their leadership presence and status. They can say it was us, but 100 when we first joined Caremark/Aetna LD...Caremark was pushed out and Aetna didn't even know all our programs and other clients. They just pushed us out. It's sad that we let a non fortune 500 company with a portion of training base dictate needs and future. Yet her it is

@f2 If it's PBM, then that means all this pressure PBM's and all this heat on PBM reform, is starting to slowly erode Caremark.

This is PBM and is ongoing. Watch for seniority, beginning of isolation, constant damned if u donor damned if you don't conversations. They are looking to isolate to save themselves. Leaders are told to pull reports and create presentations in advance of layoffs. Leaders will scramble to find out how to do your work a few months prior. Simply put value of employee, commitment, consistency and longevity have no value once this process starts. Very simply who can u save and who are unwilling to work with (even if u agree). They want to keep on staff no questions asked worker bees. Then those same people the next year will get awakened and say the same thing as those laid off. They are next (next year or year after) until they get burned out and in the interim building/fostering the next follower. What I can say is everyone loves their teams and flexibility. For those laid off... U will get angry and in your next better job you will realize you worked in a hostile work environment for trade offs. Don't be sad (know it's hard). But this is not a reflection of your knowledge or performance. This is your opp to connect with your own mental health, overcome, and do great things with a new company. You got this and you rock.

If it’s Aetna I would be shocked. The “leaders” in that space don’t believe in learning and development - or ethics. So there would be no colleagues in that space to begin with.

Seriously, how many reorganizations can one company have? It’s clear that with as many “reorgs” that CVS has had all across the various parts of the company, over the last several years, that they have no direction. It’s like they’re throwing darts against the wall to see what sticks. And they keep doing this as a “cost-cutting measure”. Pretty soon at this rate the executives will have nothing left to cut but themselves.

If there anything to take away from this, know it has nothing to do with how well you did your job. If it isn't clear to everyone, this company does not care about training or development.

@OP Sorry to hear - severance information is on Colleague Zone as another person posted. Wish you and the other colleagues the best of luck. The Learning and Development team members I have worked with are all exceptional people! I have no doubt you'll find a better place than CVS.
