It took me a while to find a decent alternative. It’s not better than Dell when it comes to pay and benefits, but the relief is incredible. My manager is actually competent, communicates like a normal human, and most importantly, runs the team efficiently. I haven’t had to stay late once, and there’s no layoff drama hanging over us (yet). Look for something new for the sake of your sanity. The job market is tough, but there are always options.

what kind of roles are people getting at other companies right now?
@f2 Killington is the best! good luck and I hope you both thoroughly enjoy retirement :)
Leaving Dell last year was the best thing that ever happened to me. Dell was wretched, and it was damaging my physical and mental health. Clinging to a job out of fear and waiting to be laid off has no future. My new role has been amazing. You don't realize how traumatized you are until you go to your next employer where you are treatedly humanely.
@f2 I was in a similar situation when I left six months ago. I had three colleagues who were told they would have to pick up the slack. Within a month they left, I guess my retirement kicked them into gear and start looking for new jobs.
For a month I was getting personal email from Dell warning me they had not received my phone yet. I never had a company phone.
I announced retirement after 20 years at EMC then Dell. The company has no plans to replace me. They will divide my work among my four remaining colleagues. BTW - I get the worst problems and fix them. I trained most of the people in the group.
Will Dell miss me? Probably not, My colleagues will probably go from our usual 45 hours or so a week to 50 so they will be too busy.
My recognition from Dell… an email telling me that I will be receiving boxes and preprinted lables to return my equipment. Failure to do so may affect my final check.
I won’t miss Dell, but I continue to miss EMC. My husband retires next month, then off on a long cruise and discuss what we want to do next. I’m thinking of opening a coffee shop with my sister who wants to leave her employer. I know the perfect spot in a small Vermont town near Killington.
Good. I’m glad to hear this. Dell is a wretched, horrible place run by a cheap pr1ck
Thank you, I needed to hear this. I've been desperately looking with no luck for a year now. I've landed some interviews but no offers. I'll keep trying. I'm so ready to leave this company.
