Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Ahh..'tis the season when you won't be awarded your ACTUAL performance rating

Our team performed effing miracles this year to achieve our segments objectives, some us were pretty broken physically & emotionally from all the pressure from execs to finish nigh impossible tasks and working absolutely insane hours to do it (about 6 months of this year are an absolute blur for me Wake up, coffee, work work work, microwave something frozen, work work work, sleep a few hours, repeat ad naseum). Manager give rates several of us with Exceeds and is then told in no uncertain terms that they can only have X number and to change the ratings.

This is the 3rd year in a row for this nonsense. With all the reorgs every few minutes, new leadership isnt going to see our performance beyond "Achieved" and thsts negative when there is a 6-8% role elimination on the horizon.

And no, I'm too old at this point to be able to find a new job close to my salary range. Just hoping to last a 2 more years and volunteer to get laid off.

I'm in support and I didn't have any issues with my performance review rating. Was close to getting a far exceed and I knew exactly why and agreed with my manager's reasoning on why I didn't.

I feel like it's likely that as someone mentioned, managers only have a specific allotment to use for their team as a whole for raises, and this likely results in having to be more overly critical with review ratings for teams made up of mostly all high performers. I'm not sure of the exact process used to determine teams funding for raises, but that's my guess.

my husband was laid off from TR few years ago. We were so distressed when he was laid off at that time...it was devastating. It took him about 6 months to find a job that paid better and work remotely 100%...and he is much happier because he does not have to
deal with really strange politics anymore... So please know that there is great life after TR carrier....We found it and you can too.

We live in an a-s kisser world. Tax and Accounting upper management is full of them. McKidiots and their miscreants rule.

In my experience, the more you have done to help customers and sell product, the less likely you are to see an uptick in compensation. A vicious cycle.

So many people have had their holidays ruined by this company. Let’s all pray that the horrible leadership at TR get ousted in the new year

I do think that TR is destroying itself from the inside out. Everyone is disappointed in the new, off-shored version of the company, most especially the customers. The move should be to retain talent not to encourage steady high performers to up and quit.

You need to ask yourself is it worth it to ki-l yourself for 4% raise or just do enough to get the job done and get 2%.

For me personally it is not worth giving up my life and devoting myself to this place or any for an extra 2%.

The math just doesn’t work out for me.

I’m just putting in enough effort (90% or so) and doing just fine. I’ve done those long hours, missing important family events, and hurting my health. And like the rest of you got my measly 3% raise.

Forget that noise. I’m done. Working my wage from here on out.

That performance ranking mandate is borderline illegal and certainly unethical in my opinion. If you goal that was established by company management is numerical such as a sales quota or call center metrics and you exceed the stated goal, how is it that you would not be rated as exceeded? Begs the question…who do you have to F around here to get an exceeded? Oh wait, LH, TP and scores of other so called leaders have been doing a great job of A kissing while sticking it to the people who make the machine run all the while keeping their jobs and being promoted to the pint of incompetence. So disgusting.

It’s honestly depressing to know it’s happening in different segments than your own. I work in a centralized group that supports the whole organization and really identify with the OP’s comment “Wake up, coffee, work work work, microwave something frozen, work work work, sleep a few hours, repeat ad naseum”. It’s quite a shame we have stayed in these jobs as long as we have.

From the documentation I’ve seen for managers they are given a pool of money to spread around and it’s not a lot.

This company is working hard to suppress wages. It’s super clear. That’s what is best for the company. They offshored a bunch of jobs in the last couple months alone. They break apart roles or rename them and have new hires hired at 30% less than the previous role.

It’s a race to the bottom.

Even if you get promoted it’s a joke. There is no benefit to you unless you like doing all the extra work for 5%-10% more pay at the most.

I'm part of Corporates.

And as far as finding equal or better pay - I'm 60, a non-POC female with no degree*. I am in a pay range - been here nearly 20 years and have been considered high-performing (till lately 🙄) - that is highly unlikely to be matched. I'm out anytime after 62, hopefully with a RIF with severance. Till then, I'm just hanging on as best I can...

*Not that theres ANYTHING wrong about any of that, but the cons are higher than the pros. Heck, I wouldnt hire me at my current salary LOL

Same experience as a manager in corporate finance (not corp segment), couldn’t give the ratings I wanted to, even when totally earned, that trend started 3 years ago, probably not different t this year.
About pay…I was laid off and thought I wouldn’t find comparable pay, but the pay is so much higher in other companies. Look around if you’re not happy at TR, it’s scary, but so totally worth it to find a place with a healthier work/life balance, where you feel appreciated and you get paid more.

What part of the business are you in? This has not been my experience in editorial.
