Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Layoffs just keep coming

Is it just me, or is everyone exhausted from these constant cuts? I’m this close to walking out no matter what happens next.

@31g There were others but some got positions back within. They are letting people go a bit at a time to avoid it hitting the media.

@1d5 Were you fired or layed off with severance? How many others or just you?

@2wn It seems like Optum has been rolling layoffs every few weeks lately where they don't get as much news/coverage. I know multiple people who have been part of the smaller cuts in the past 30-45 days.

A standard rule of thumb is expect a job search to take 1 month per every $10,000 in salary. So a $100,000 salary could potentially take up to 10 months of job searching to find a new job. This is what outplacement tells you and I have seen it with many people in all kinds of economies. The higher you go up the pay scale, the fewer positions there are. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as you may come across even better opportunities, just make sure your emergency fund is ready. If it’s not, you don’t want to take a job out of need as opposed to fit.

Please don't walk out without another job offer in hand. The job market is not pretty right now. Take this advice---get your resume updated and start applying while still working. It is taking 6-9 months average for some to find another comparable job. Me included, and I finally landed one after 6 months. Hope the best for you!

@dt what do you mean by WellMed will be having a report?

Wellmed will be having a report. It was reported that Optum Health is the segment that is dragging the company down because they have not been profitable so they were going to expand clinics but have put any growth on hold .
