Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Why the hate?

I moved to Boston for this role and since day 1, I have experienced nothing but hate.

Starting with security personnel at the entrance glancing at you weirdly to cafeteria employees giving stink eye.

And on top of that, every elevator ride is awkward with people not even reacting / responding to greetings.

Is this normal at fidelity or is it just catching up with political landscape???

One thing is for certain, whatever the reason I am not feeling safe.

@sx Grew up in Chicago and moved to Texas. It's awesome here. I'm quite sure this will elicit hate and insults, and I will continue to feel sorry for those that feel they must react in such a way. I worked with a gal that moved to Westlake from Rhode Island who told us that people from the Northeast are more intelligent. 😳 She was nice otherwise once you got to know her, but she had problems doing the basic tasks of the job.

@ny don't need your sympathy. I'm comfortable with myself. But, I recommend the midwest for you. You'll like the pace and the kindly folk.

You think it’s bad now, wait till January when people are really friendly.

@nm your comment comes off as angry and nasty. I feel sorry that is how you are wired. 😔

Welcome to the northeast. It’s note hate. It’s how we are wired. You’ll either acclimate, or move back to the Midwest.

People don't exchange pleasantries with you on the elevator and that is 'hate'?! Do you think words are violence too? Sounds like you're paranoid TBH. People are pissy and grumpy about having to go into the office instead of working in their pajamas.

It took Ned Johnson 50 years to build the culture at Fidelity and 2 years for his daughter to wreck it with RTO.

Is it really as bad as you all say? Security messing with staff, HR useless, Leadership clueless.

Assuming you're not white so unfortunately you gotta su-k it up and go through this.

The ever changing political landscape isn't helping as well, feel bad for you but unfortunately that's the new reality we live in.

@c9 LOL - If you are referring to the New England slang word, you are using it wrong. Its used to replace 'very" so it would be a "wicked good morning" :0)

People who are beyond burnt out and depressed because their employer doesn’t value them as people aren’t hating on you - they’re just trying to survive the day. Unfortunately not everything revolves around you. (And don’t go to HR, all they care about is protecting the top brass)

Start saying "wicked" instead of "good". For example, "wicked morning" instead of "good morning". This will earn their respect.

@ab

Go to HR to say "people won't say hi to me in the elevator and i think someone randomly glared at me"?

WTF have you been smoking?

I'd document this behavior somehow and document it to HR.

But then again I documented everything my manager did wrong and reported to HR, and now I am PIP even after receiving excellence award.

So I guess nothing will happen, you either su-k it up and accept this new reality, or quit and join another firm hoping it'll treat you better.

From what you doesn't seem like you are American (whatever the definition for it might be these days) so I definitely can sympathize with you.

People hate coming two weeks into the office,

People hate mandatory 6 hours in the office during connect weeks each day

People hate zscaler making associates sit continuously 3 hours so your machine gets registered to network as compliance

People hate being made to enter track IT hours without getting any details around how one is supposed to enter time.

And people in general are hating due to ever changing political landscape, we are not far from full blown civil war

Lol...that's just New England. We have a pretty touch exterior. We skip the pleasantries, but when you break through, the niceness is legit and not some nice facade.

There seems to be a lot of hatred going along.

Most of my team is in WLK, I sit in Boston floor 4 by myself.

I have noticed my seat is being taken everyday as the whole section / cubicle of 8 seats have team together.

Not that I mind but something tells me there's intentional racist acts going across the firm which is concerning.
