@379 what do they do? Talk to partners to market Teradata?

@33w while i like his approach, i will decide on RTO when he publishes a clear plan to accommodate everyone back in office, how about locations where they closed the Teradata offices, would he re-open? I guess in Hyderabad, India, we are now operating in a single floor from 3 floors before, Canada office was closed 4 years back during Covid and we had close to 200 people there. If we are not expanding existing facilities / not opening new offices, Where does he expect all employees to sit, on each others' laps? And opening new offices mean new capital expenditure, unless we have a bigger purse to open up (which doesn't seem to be the case), WFH is best for everyone involved with probably a hybrid work plan for teams so people can come in on different days.

@33b I think the CPO is driving much needed change into TD. I gave you an upvote but I'm expecting us to get downvotes. Everyone needs to obey the CPO, get back in the office and drive real change

@271 I like how he is getting into details, which the previous CPO didn't do. I also like how he clearly sets guidelines and actually drives his team to execute it, which I haven't seen before with other leaders because they just set & forget.

I've heard October. Like in every other previous year, it will be a halloween axe job. Line up and face the executioner on Halloween. Something morbid about Teradata chopping staff on Halloween

@2hz you realize that it could be a simple mid-year tag up right? Steve McMillan isn’t just running the show—he’s leading a company where layoffs are rare, a feat that speaks volumes in today’s industry. Stability and results are still his thing, and we’re all better off for it.

@298 no calls for me on Friday. Everyone here mocks me for doing my job but if you put your best foot forward here you'll thrive here

I too have a call scheduled for this Friday. Again like the others I'm hearing, 15 min call, no topic. Something is up as too many are talking about it here in the office.

@1r6 what is an example of this imporant product line you think exist at Teradata?

@1w4 Teradata isn't toxic it's an excellent environment to be in you just need to put your best foot forward. I've spoken to SM before he deeply values a positive and collaborative environment. If things are toxic you should feel comfortable to go up to your skip and ask what's wrong, you should feel empowered to. That said there are no layoffs happening next week, I am in hr

I've got a 15min call with my manager scheduled for next Friday. Several others as well in my team all for different times of the day. Something is happening.

Really hope we get out of this toxic dump

@1qp I'm a PM and I'd consider my role high stress high reward. If you are on an important product line teradata wouldn't lay you off but you need to be good to be in a good spot. If you're stuck maintaining legacy stuff, I would assume you lack skills that Teradata or the outside truly needs. Therefore deadwood gets bad work and layoffs and high performers can thrive at TD.

Doing your job has nothing to do with whether or not you’re retained. It’s a corporate numbers game. It’s usually a cut of 5-10% across the board or in departments with high expense and lower ROI. TD has laid off countless amazing, high performing talent at no fault of their own. They are just victims of the numbers game.

@1kw It's too embarassing to keep suggesting this logic. Company results are not in line with this theory. The company is in a downward spiral.

@1ks there's not going to necessary be layoffs but some low performers might get cut. Focus on the goal and keep your head held high my friend.

I remember when lunch was free at the Yahoo campus (believe it or not there was a day when yahoo was relevant) in Santa Clara. This was done to keep everyone close to their office. I also worked at a business that feed everyone lunch for 6 months. Then abruptly sold to another group and the new group fired eveyeone thet didn't didn't like.

Keep this post in mind 6 months from now.

@nv You can call me whatever names you want, at the end of the day I will survive the layoffs, I will be one of the last people out if TD does get gutted and sold to private equity. What proof do you want that I work at TD? I can tell you a few things here there's a subsidy for lunch available once per day and my lunch costs around 5 dollars, most of the laptops are Dells as well as the monitors, and the general office plan is open office with small separators and there are rooms at the center of the second floor there if you want to focus. Also employees enter through the back entrance post covid, and the second building where the gym is in RB is mostly empty. I will say I have 7 years in on multiple product lines here and end of the day do I care what the ELT does? No, because if I do my job I know they will do theirs and keep as many people employed as they can.

Llama + Selenium to control the browser then train it to do comments here.

I could have an "ELT is amazing" chat bot commenting on this site in an afternoon.

Notice how I didnt use Teradata ;-) Honestly I dont think using Teradata in AI is even possible. Or if it is, its a square peg round hole situation.

@nv You know I get the vibe that it could be a bored HR or Talent Acquisition fella just looking to have some fun here? Otoh maybe there's a guy who is really enjoying the koolaid not impossible, but why are they here? Some of these comments have an AI vibe to them, like that RTO post felt like someone got some ragebait from ChatGPT and everyone here took the bait 🙄

These are fake individuals sprinkling sarcastic positivity. If they are ex-teradata and these happy posts somehow helping them cope with the job loss, please ask them to seek help. Working at teradata is just a pay. It can stop anytime. When it does, just walk. There is nothing to look back to. The clues left by these individual/s do not match a profile. They are not in RB office, can say that with reasonable confidence.

Ask for help. You need help.

@k8 just because I'm happy about working at Teradata and approve of the ELT doesn't make me a troll. I welcome a respectful discussion about the state of Teradata, I'm just trying to boost employee morale. There's a lot of depression on this board which isn't the reality, it's very nice in the San Diego office.

I honestly can’t tell if this person is trolling or if they’re genuinely a corporate bootlicker. If it’s the latter and they really believe in the ELT team, that’s just sad. Out of all the companies I’ve been at, this is without a doubt the worst management group I’ve ever seen. Their only “solution” is layoffs, with zero product innovation, all to make it look like earnings per share are improving. But investors aren’t buying it. They’ve already shifted a huge amount of work to low-cost regions, and there’s no room left to keep doing that without causing a complete collapse. The writing is on the wall, everyone sees it. At best, they’ve got a year or two before private equity swoops in to gut what’s left.

@hk are you delusional? Do you think the "frontline" workers are actually the ones being impacted in the layoffs? The ones I've seen hit are absolute deadwood and honestly I've been happy to see them be let go of. And yes the ELT does deserve better severance because they work harder than you do even if you want to call it a "golden parachute". The difference between you and the ELT is the ELT is required to act in the best interests of TD you are not which is why I think they deserve more than you.
