SD Benefits

Curious if anyone has heard how our benefits could be changing - I.e holidays, PTO, health benefits, etc.

@OP I liked your question. One I’ve wondered about myself especially since morale is low I’ve wondered how they would offset it. Don’t let the corporate s l a v e s bring you down. There are places to look for optimism and benefits even if it’s just perks - it is a great one to try not to let this unfortunate time bog you down. Ask away.

My thoughts - they could get rid of unlimited PTO just for more control, perhaps introduce tech perks (swag drops, monetary perks (gym stipend, transportion, free snack), reevaluate salaries in 2027, give RSU? They need to do something to to bring morale back up. Who knows how but they will come up with something otherwise they 100% won’t attract top tech talent either especially with this unreasonable ask to RTO 5 days a week. Even Netflix who pushes their employees don’t have such a rule.

They are supposedly not going to change, but take that with a grain of salt, since we were also told RTO was not a "one size fits all," only to get very black and white guidance that suggests otherwise. That said, I wouldn't expect them to remove unlimited PTO. Despite the fact it seems like a great perk, studies show that most employees use less than they would if they were accruing but the biggest boon to the company is that they don't have to pay any vacation banks out when employees leave, so don't kid yourself, it definitely works to the company's advantage.

@bm What office? They hired me as a remote employee. There's not an office in my state I can go to.

@ag are you for real? Work is not everyone's entire life - esp in this toxic dump. We need work-life balance, a corporation won't think twice to take your job away tomorrow, what's going to matter in the end is your family, friends etc. Sorry if you don't have a life but most people work to live, not the other way around.

@ah don’t let that person bully you. As an employee you hav EVERY RIGHT to be curious about your benefits whether that be healthcare, vacation policies, company holidays, etc. You don’t need to only be concerned about changes to healthcare. Simply inquiring if ANY of your existing benefits will change is a completely valid question and any person who thinks we shouldn’t care and are lazy and slackers for asking are a**holes that need to get a life that doesn’t completely revolve around a job and company that, not to be dramatic, but wouldn’t care if they lived or died.

health care important to me as well
may be why i don't take the buyout and roll dice
i asked a former pre covid SD employee
" great healthcare " was anthem - no premium for employee at time
PTO and holidays - not unlimited
401 K match
of course that's not 10, 000 plus employees but that was the answer
this is a rumor site...

@ag I’m actually fine returning 5 days, I did it precovid for many years. I used PTO as an example of benefits. Understand this is a tough time for everyone but it was a simple question. I’m mostly concerned how health benefits could potentially change.

Maybe focus on your job, not PTO. No wonder DE is cleaning house. This company is bloated with people more concerned with vacation and actually having to go to an office than putting in the work.

No one knows yet, but I feel like it’s becoming abundantly clear that SD is not pro employee, based on this ridiculously out of touch RTO mandate it and how cold and abrupt that email was. It’s going to be a rough place to work.
