Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell being STUPID again...

Not only did they announce a near 2 million dollar facelift in Round Rock the day after a mass layoff. They have now announced a 25 million dollar EXPANSION to RR. And its their initiative to hire financially challenged people 35% of the staff base they say....WTH so we will get even more unqualified people than we already do....When did it become lets hire to get our name out there in a good light vs hiring the right person for the job. Leadership is a JOKE at Dell, we are going to do this because XYZ company is. Just because someone else is doing it, doesn't mean its right. They are returning to their previous roots when they were nothing but box pushers. Heaven forbid you actually do something that is beneficial to the customer. They try to use AI and fall flat on their faces repeatedly. To me hard to sell people on AI when you can't even use it successfully in house...Their AI engine comes via Nvidia, again no development on Dells part, just push the product out the door. Someone with some brain please buy Dell...!!

@f3 you’re parking garage story is 100% bullsh-t. RR3 was the first building built and was always an office. The other buildings were built as Dell grew.

These "renovations/expansions" have likely been in the works for some time now and, what better way to justify them by demanding a 5 day/RTO?

The RR bulidings DO need renovating but, at the cost of employees? Pretty sure not a single employee gaf if all those RR buildings used to literally be parking garages.

Fun fact: Minus building 2 and maybe 1 other, the other buildings were quite literally parking garages that were build for a reason and, they ended up being not needed. Dell bought them and made them into office buildings. At least building 7 and 8 were... Havent ever been in the others except for 1 and 2 but, 7 and 8 had literal parking garage beams in it lol.

But, the majority of people are gone from the office by lunch time so like, they are renovating these buildings for the people who stay from like 9am-11am? lol what a joke.

And that’s exactly why the return to office initiatives were such a big deal.. Dell had to prove to RR that revenue would be brought into the city in exchange for funds from the city for the renovations! FML!!!!!!!

you mean when the layoff developers and turn QA folks into developers and expect the same output. Ya, that is a brilliant move. Half of them are Indian women that work half a day to tend to their kids. Now that was stupid, but hey, that is ISG for ya.

He went from shouting ‘Go America!’ on LinkedIn to polishing Dodge’s knob, and now he’s parading around as Mr. DEI. The mixed messaging isn’t just confusing, it’s transformative politics. Anything for a tax break or billion dollar deal I guess.

The facelift is fine with me. RR2 looks like one of those 1960s nuclear shelters that the president would go into if there was a war.

Maybe you just ain’t that guy you think you are bro. Many of us who work for Dell and are actually high performers go into the office with no issue. What are you whining about? Just leave. We don’t need you.

Back in the 90s, when she was starting out in sales, my sister worked for a rather specialized company. As one holiday season rolled around the owner was discussing where to hold a holiday party. He suggested Asa location his newly renovated home in Newton, Massachusetts. (An affluent suburb of Boston). My sister suggested that wasn’t a good idea since he bragged about the $10,000 marble foyer and an other extremely expensive upgrades the same day he told a couple of secretaries that money was tight and he couldn’t give them raises.

This same boss, when the subject of bonuses was discussed he suggested that he give everyone rocks with motivational messages engraved. He was told that was a very bad idea since he would probably be the first boss in modern history to be stoned to death.
