Thread regarding Walgreens layoffs

I trust the lot that’s coming in even less than the previous leadership

I’ve been with Walgreens for a long time and through the worst times. I somehow survived all the cuts, reorganizations, and upheavals. But right now, I’m on higher alert than ever and have started preparing for a possible exit. I’m not in the most desirable age bracket for employers (soon to be 50), and I still have debt I need to service. I can’t afford to be caught off guard, not with the job market and the direction the economy is headed. I’m not trying to make anyone panic. Just saying we should all be more prepared than usual for whatever comes next.

@qt Totally agree Sycamore won't think twice about firing people but they still need bodies to run the stores they don't get rid of. Lower level employees may be able to hang in there a little longer for whatever that's worth.

With how easily they cut the executives and c-suite, they'll cut the rest of us off with out a blink. Tim supposedly on the board, but MIA in the hand over townhall not even a transition handshake.

Ownership has not changed. Pessina has owned us since 2014. However, the tools he now has at his disposal are right out of a Saw movie.

@OP Judging from what I saw from the Townhall, this Sycamore bunch gave off a kind of "cutthroat" vibe. I don't think they'll lose any sleep cutting lots of jobs at Walgreens.

Nothing can be worse than the previous leadership. They destroyed this company and sold it to vultures.

@OP Start looking at other options. Your new management is coming from Staples, and look what they are doing in the same town with Essendant which they own. They are closing and laying off 2/3s of the company this week. Previous they decimated neighboring Quill, also one of their Staples businesses. It's sad to see century old American companies be destroyed by private equity.
