Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

The company couldn’t be less modern

I think the government is more modern than Dell. The initiatives they drive to modernize are basic engineering practices that our management rejects, because our management teams at the SVP level and up have no idea about technologies or industry practices. The operational models they’ve put into place in ISG and CSG are steps backwards. They couldn’t possibly be more bureaucratic and foolish. Just huge power grabs made from people who have no idea what they’re doing and are so philosophical and unrealistic it’s embarrassing in practice.

Meanwhile you add the layoffs, cut throat attitude and poor strategy and you’ve got yourself one of the worst businesses of all time.

Dell is a company stuck in the 90s that has no strategy, poor management and terrible engineering practices. They don’t really want to modernize although they like the word.

It’s pathetic and sad.

@ac What a stupid comment... That's like saying Elon lives in fkn Del Valle suburb of Austin... Which is a ghetto suburb and quite dark. Elon, just like MD, Joe Rogan, and many other rich af celebs in Texas... Live in my hometown of Westlake... Go Chaps!!

Yes and the vast majority of leaders live in Westlake or Tarrytown... No leader/exec/CEO is living in fkng RR lol... RR is a decent suburb but if you are an exec, you sure af aren't living there. I mean, it's not like THEY have to go into the office considering they are the ones implementing all that nonsense...

MD lives in Westlake (Which I believe is his main residence) off of Torro Canyon which is a super nice street off of Westlake Dr. He also has a place off of BeeCave Road next to a neighborhood I grew up in. Couldn't see his estate from the road of course but, we could on our boat... I think he sold that lake estate but at one point it was his... The entrance still has a big ol' D on the gate lol.

Most directors/sr directors and VP's do not live in RR though, is my point lol. RR is a cheap suburb of Austin and the top dogs do NOT live in RR lol

It's not just ISG and CSG, that much I can tell you... SRO is pushing HARD for AI but yet, agressively push towards skillsoft learning/courses. Which is great but, skillsoft courses do me no good in the future. Especially if I'm laid off and/or looking for a new job. it's like taking a youtube course and telling everyone you "completed it." Ok, cool! Na, I want an industry standard CERTIFICATION. Not some lame internal dell email I get for completing a skillsoft course lmfao. TF is this supposed to do?

SRO hasn't had a real budget in at least 5 years at this point and it's pathetic, considering what we actually do... Since we aren't money makers or external facing, cutomer facing, or anything like that... we are typically last in line for a budget.

Which is funny because SRO is the org that protects every penny dell makes. Protects against hackers. Protects against physical intruders. Monitors and maintains the badging systems, security systems, and anything security related within the company, amongst far more than just those.

SRO literally enables every single person at the company to even work (VPN's/firealls) Oh but hey, if the primary VPN goes down and nobody is available to go to the DC to reboot it, it can't be remotely restarted because dell is too cheap to pay for an OOB solution! Which means the HA VPN would be used but, what if that malfunctions and things don't failover? Worst case scenario of course but, IF that were to happen... NOBODY at Dell would be able to work until it's brought back online. Which would be for at minimum, 3-6 hours.

But nope, Dell refuses to give one of the most important orgs any money to secure their assets, money, and etc... because SRO isn't an org that generates money.

round rock is their HQ. most of the "leaders" are from the area.
Hardly the epicenter of innovation.
