Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Activist investors

Read the news that several activist investors groups that own UP and or BNSF stock are promoting paid sick leave, bring up sick days proposed in stock ownership meetings. Think it was a story in Reuters news.

I'd like to see where you can find the stocks for a privately owned company too! The extra sick days was a nice thought, but it's a bit too late for that now. The RR's have painted themselves into a corner. Save the date of December 13th and 14th. The CEO and a couple other UP execs have to go before the STB for a hearing regarding embargoes and other issues. The CEO was ordered to be there! He's can't get out of this, like he did with the last two! It'll be live-streamed on YouTube, so everyone can watch him. Should be fun to watch.

I am only speaking for myself, I personally would settle for 7 UN-paid sick days a year. Only so I could rest a day or two when sick, or to care for my wife and kids when they're sick and not worry about filing unnecessary paperwork or how this affects planned vacation / leave later in the year. Me telling my manager "I am sick, gonna rest and heal up" should NEVER frustrate or cause an imposition on anyone else.

Sadly it's not all investors that want it. I think some of the investors are seeing the issues more clearly and how it's going to affect them in the future. The executives are going to do what they do best though. They'll just over-promise and under-deliver. The extra paid sick days would've been nice. Their refusal to negotiate those extra sick days is probably going to cost them.
