Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Stop moving people around

I was put in three different technical roles with three different technologies (think refinery vs chem plant vs polymer and mechanical engineering vs process engineering) in the first five years of my career because they’re offshoring my role and then restructuring my team.

My first mistake was to let the management move me and my job family like a pawn in a chess game and all for a hope that I will eventually land on a better role that suits me one day. Got PIP right after I joined a new team and my career was never the same. They asked me to master three different technologies that have nothing to do with each other and had the audacity to pip me. Be so fr right now.

I left a year after I got pip and I’m happier with my new job. GRASS IS DEFINITELY GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE! I still lurk on here though just to see if XOM are still doing people dirty and they still do lol

Most groups have been downsized by 50% since January 2021. If you are moved to another group, by definition, you are on the NSI/PIP list unless you are a subject matter expert in the new group.

Even if you are the subject matter expert, if you are 52+, you are in the bottom third headed for NSI when you reach 55 years old.

Yes they moved me out of a position I was suited for. I got moved to dysfunctional he-l hole named baytown. I failed there because no one would help out with all the bruacracy. Everything I did was wrong and scrutinized. I got piped and transfered out of baytown. The said it was an opportunity for me to advance and instead it ki-led my career. They knew what they were doing. Never leave at place where you can excell.

It is a good thing you got out when you did and landed a job elsewhere. I don't think that other companies are considering XOM experience these days to be relevent anymore.

You were moved to three different technical roles with three different technologies so that you would fail. ExxonMobil knew that they had to "lay you off" and this was a legally correct way to get you to fail so that they could put you in the NSI bucket.
