Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Are there actually quotas

Is there any truth to these performance quotas? Can anyone steel man what's going on here, cause on the surface this seems absolutely ridiculous.

Are managers literally being given percentages? 70% must be met, 20% did not meet, 10% meet, etc? If so, what is the logic behind this. Is the idea that statistically that's how it should be, and they won't believe managers saying everybody on their team met expectations?

Can't tell what's real and whats sensationalized

About 30% forced inconsistent in our department. Pay the price for top management follies. Completely rigged s__t show.

Basically reduce costs by pushing performances down (lower raises, lower bonus). Pump up the stock price and pay the executives.

Whole pr has become a joke. Ford is behaving like a chicken with head cutoff. Reflection on the desperation on the top management, who have no clue to reduce warranty costs and turn company around. Very sad and demotivating environment. This company may not exist in 20 years.

Yes, my LL6 told me all in my section would be pushed down and 'met' would be a stretch to achieve. Why bother with self assessment when there was no discussion and no budging during 1:1.

This is true, people are being put at a lower level on the surface, but if anyone digs in, which is unlikely, the notes reflect higher ratings.

I'm in ET. My manager was told to downgrade me in at least one pillar from a 2 to a 1. They were told no one could have all 2s. That was the explanation when I asked for feedback on the 1 rating.

Yup, atleast other OEMs have the guts to post it with the local paper. Instead Ford tries to hide it.

As an LL6, I was assured by HR and my direct leadership up through LL3 that there were no forced ranking or forced 1 ratings… but can’t say the same for other groups. I’m in ET.

If your manager is leaving the company, it means the whole branch under him will be laid off. They give a bad performance to the manager first and due to disclosure he can't tell anyone working under him.

It's a social experiment to see who cracks. Make them pay you to leave. Hold strong.

Do you really think some finance person ISNT calculating how much revenue per employee Ford makes versus its Japanese competitors, and the margins they expect it to earn, and making headcount decisions accordingly?

Pull yer head out of the sand, guy.

This is a natural extension of the forced ranking theory that Jack Welch (former CEO of G.E.) espoused. It was brought into Ford 20-some years ago by that sycophant Jac Nasser and it failed miserably. All it accomplished was to turn employees against each other "Why am I in the bottom 10% and Joe Schmo is in the middle when you know that I am better than him". At ITEK, people were running around crying because they got put into the bottom bucket and were being fired.
