Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

If anyone from the mgmt is reading this, here it goes:

take a closer look at the culture within the office.... The environment described feels isolating and unwelcoming and that discourages collaboration comms and long term emp retention... If employees are too overworked to engage with one another the company risks building silos where mistakes are more likely to grow until they become costly. investing in small changes like encouraging greetings providing planned break times and creating inclusive chances for people to connect can make the workplace MUCH healthier and MUCH more productive...

u gotta start reevaluating how opportunities are shared in OKC. if candidates believe roles are reserved for insiders the company loses out on fresh talent and new perspectives... When employees sense favoritism it ki-ls trust + morale. You should work to promote transparency in hiring and proms while also building mentorship programs that let inexperienced employees learn without being punished for honest mistakes!!!

@bcn Widetrack should have visited the taco bar in NEBU. He would have enjoyed it.

Devon management is a gang. They have very limited knowledge of O&G outside of their 10 years experience with the same company, doing the same thing, over and over. It is a tragedy that they have no idea of what they don't know.

@b8a Exactly said. Even worse they have made only bad decisions. Its appalling that failed individuals have been promoted to management and have been rewarded

most of the management maybe has 10 yrs experience, and only worked for this one company in one or two basins.

O&g doesn’t care who you are, or how fancy your building is, or what clothes you wear, or how smart you think you are. Winners don’t care about these things either.

Dvn didn’t care years ago when it was kicking a-s, move to the tower things began to change slowly…then with layoffs the narcissists/machiavellians stomped out anything left of the winning culture. Pathetic what this once great company has become, going to take a significant event for things to change.

@8fp No phone, no lights, no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primitive as can be.

The absolute worst thing that happened to Devon culture was the great decline of the WideTrack Dynasty. What did this legend see that forced HR's hand? One man and his struggle to single handedly right the ship (No thanks to the ship captain)...

I declare this date from here on as "No Lobes Day" - No skill, No hard hat stickers, No lobes....

@5f9 That changing at the helm is scary! Not even close to being CEO material, a bit too arrogant and self focused. Devon is asking to be taken over with that change. Maybe it's time. Get those toxic people out of there!

How many years has this message been shared and still no action? The culture here at dvn is entrenched and even the changing at the helm has had no effect.

I think the only way to cure this disease is an acquisition and subsequent move to Houston.

@OP there was a time when I believed in Devon. I believed they cared about their employees. Seems like something changed. IF you have a good leader, you are lucky! They do want to grow you as a professional. It is to their benefit, Devon's benefit and most importantly your benefit. I don't know if there are many or any good leaders anymore. Lots of work, POLARIZING POLITICS and loads of favoritism. They don't promote on merit, hard work, talent or commitment...they promote based on favoritism. If you came to Devon expecting to be promoted, please know there is a LONG line of peeps ahead of you waiting for their overdue and much deserved promotion. If Devon would remove the toxic cancer in their HR Dept as well as several Directors, Managers and Supervisors, people might start getting the opportunity to flourish.

OKC has a terrible vibe at the operator HQ level. The field personnel are hard working, disciplined, and helpful. The office engineer staff is pretty toxic and clannish. HR ladies lurking on the site…Fire 15% of your engineers and profits and moral will increase…
Devon to experience hard well production declines until moral improves

Promotions generally have been a perception game. Its not what value we add, have seen too many times people getting promoted too early and too often even making some worst decisions. Hang in there and jump when you can if there is a good opportunity outside. Devon is slowly turning into one of the worst companies that values favoritism more than the true talent.

@zv sounds like you should take your talents to south beach. You named a few leaders going back to Hager, at what point were you happy? You must su-k if it’s been that long since you got a promo with that much change. You speak of culture but can’t get over something 10+ years ago, bet you are fun at parties.

Take a look back over the years at how quickly the yes men have been promoted up through the ranks and how the ones actually doing the work have been stranded, over looked, under paid, and burned out. They have an eye for talent management about as good as picking which assets to pay triple what it’s worth. DEI destroyed the culture more than “Drive it into the ground” Hager who got replaced by Ricky and now Clay “Gasping for air” in the 3 foot deep kiddie pool who still can’t fix the culture problems.

@ew ..and if you don't advance past your current level, a resume generating event is in your near future.

You're missing the obvious conclusion that's staring you in the face. Promotions at Devon are decided years in advance and roles are set aside for specific people. If they haven't taken an interest in developing you it's because you won't be advancing past your current level.
