@bp what I do is go out with my manager and drink, we drink and drink and drink until I know they can’t drive home. I offer up me walking them to my car. When we get to my car I do what I have to do to secure my raise. You can message me for the dirty details…and trust me they are dirty but I have gotten 25% raises each round. It’s not something I brag about, but it is something that I’d do twice on Sundays and actually have done twice on Sunday when the reviews are slated for Monday! Hope that helps!

@ae Also depends on where you stand in your MRR zone. If you're already at the high-end, you likely won't get any more raises until you get a promotion.
Check with your manager which zone you're in. If you're at the low end, and you're performance is good, you should probably land in the middle.
If you haven't had this discussion with your manager, you owe it to yourself to have one.
If your manager claims that this information is confidential, consult with your HR rep.

@bn curious how the budget works for grade promotions? Seeing as the pay bands overlap, why are they so stingy with grade bumps?

@am The rule of thumb for people leaders during "rewards" season is:
higher grade levels (10 and above) == more RSUs, less-to-no cash
lower grade levels == more cash, less-to-no RSUs

I get plenty of RSUs I don't want

a couple of times I have been declined additional cash, I have threatened to leave, and as a result get a pittance of additional cash along with some crying about "you are not at the top for your grade and region"...like I care, I should be rewarded for performance, not by a spreadsheet

I doubt my money-or-I-walk thing would work again, so I will just self-reward by working less

Pay raises are not a lot, in most companies. You will usually get 5000-15k raise, 15k because of exceptional performance or a promotion. If you are sitting this long without a pay raise, it either means your performance is not good or the group you are in, is not in a good financial position so they get allocated less dollars.
Are you getting good RSUs? Sometimes you get compensated with them, instead of a raise.
If you want a bigger bump, the best way to do it is by switching companies. I am sure a lot of people who did that will vouch for my comment. This is pretty much the only way I know to get a really good bump.

@af well said. Many here do not want to do anything but complain about layoffs and raises. It is funny how days after 7K of their colleagues were laid off they are now complaining about raises. These same people were complaining about layoffs last week. Now raises. Next week it will be something else.

In US, that is very common so without knowing your location, difficult to comment. Employee in India (not sure about China) usually got raise yearly because the exchange rate is extremely good.

Give yourself a substantial raise, by getting a new job at a different company, where they make you an offer of no less than 10% more than what you're making now.
I did it years ago and got a 63% raise, just by switching companies...same job title!
That's the only way you'll really get ahead.

Stop being a su---r, sitting in your own non-raised filth, waiting on someone else to decide when to change your dirty diaper.
Tear off that dirty diaper, throw it away, wipe your own a$$, and then move forward toward a paycheck you believe you deserve, and what you're really worth!

No one else is going to do it for you, except YOURSELF.

I know many at grade 10 or 11 who did not get raises for 5 years.

If you did not get raise for 3-4 years. You can request HR to take a look into your file and adjust your salary for inflation.

If you are already above average or overpaid !!! Good luck !

You kidding? You get some raises in the lowest grade, but as you move up the ladder, no raises. Many senior folks had no raises for ten years, RSU is all you have.

I had to check back through my records. I've gotten 3% before. But across my career the average has been more like 5+%/y. I haven't heard anything about this year yet. The vibe I got off various communications was that it wouldn't be anything mindblowing this year but communications have felt more opaque than normal.

That’s crazy, every year I’ve gotten a raises been here for about 5 years and last year I got a 10% bump and the year before think it was 5%. Not sure what org you’re in
