These days, this whole place is about chasing trends and looking busy rather than actually improving anything. People cheer for whatever is flashy instead of doing work that counts. It is frustrating to watch effort go into things that really do not matter. I think all our jobs (and lives) would improve if we focused on what matters and not on what looks or sounds good.

Company definitely is going in the wrong directions. Slowly. Can't even lose quickly.
What matters? Keep your stockholders and President Trump happy, especially the institutional investors who are invested in ExxonMobil for the long-term.

this is the inescapable end result of forced ranking, anything to "differentiate" you from others
It’s a PR/HR/JR high place. The disconnect from DW to Lt downward is frankly embarrassing. I agree on the Tech and less people. But if we actually managed people and held ourselves and others accountable who knows!
The “flashy” things are what helps me with my EADS and ranking.
We were told that being good at your primary job does not keep you out of NSI. It’s the other BS that matters.
Their rules and not mine.
Welcome to EMTECH.
Image is everything, smoke & mirrors, post nice things in our social media.
As a bonus, befriend a BTC Indian and post a picture with him.
Your on your way to OWD
If we kept pace with "technology", especially financial software IT platforms, we would need 10,000 fewer employees and our focus would be on what really matters instead of PR fluff.
We should disable PowerPoint from all ExxonMobil internal presentations to management including V.P.'s as a starting point. We spend 25% of our time on pretty fonts and colors instead of the facts. As the CEO of XTO stated to all XTO employees, pretty fonts and colors do not change the decisions that we need to make to grow the corporation.
