Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Do you still recommend Dell to people looking for a job?

I used to rave about working here. Now the best I can say is, eh, it pays the bills, but if you have other options, take them.

Up until last year I would have said yes. We were still given some flexibility and this was before the threat of layoffs became a weekly occurrence.

Yes, we had the usual big corporate bullsh-t, but I would advise people that you will get that nearly anywhere, except a self-consciously cool startup. But there you’re balancing risks and rewards. Mostly risk.

Then came the layoffs that seemed designed to keep everyone stressed, they hypocritical fiats from management that you must be in the office, the counting of swipes… Everyone knows the drills.

I would have said yes 5-6 years ago but, not anymore. Every possible thing at dell has declined since I started. Literally everything. Onsite ammenities is a joke now, promotions have been MIA, raises have been pathetic, never a budget, hiring freezes, RTO, CONSTANT layoffs, and severely underpaid compared to others..

When I first started? I absolutely would have but now... FUQ no.

Overall, heck no. But it heavily depends what they do for a living in all honesty... Personally I've had no major issues with dell and love my job. I love my manager and everybody i work with.

However, I do have complaints and more than likely would not rec. anybody work for dell. Primarily because they are constatnly laying off, underpay, lack of promotions, pathetic raises, and etc...

I've worked for a number of major companies. Dell is the worst, hands down. I've never seen a place treat employees like cr-p like I have here. This is the stuff the interns need to know or even the rotational kids...get out before you get stuck here.

Yes. It’s very easy and decent money. You could do worse.

The pay’s too low for me to really hype it up or recommend it to anyone younger.

But if the money makes sense, it could be worth putting in a year just for the name recognition—then move on.

Through the years I've usually given the eNPS question a solid 9 or 10 out of 10. This year I gave it a 1 (or was it a 2?).

No, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, and had it not been for the severance I will ultimately get, I would have tried to leave and find a new job a couple of years ago.

In just a few years they've managed to absolutely destroy everything that was good about working for this company, and there's zero indication that it will get anything but worse going forward.

All depends on their viable alternatives but Dell would be low on any tier as far as my recommendation.

Depends on the job and the department.

As a first “real” sales job? Absolutely, since they’ll take almost anyone into the sales org. I’ve helped friends get out of retail and get onto a path where they can actually make good money. Especially if they didn’t know how good Dell was before, they don’t have that to compare too and it’s still a good job.

Uh. No. It's a very low budget outfit.

I liked the pay, but looking back it wasn't worth it and that says a lot! It's very hard to walk away from money and that is advice I try to give to others so they don't stay in a toxic situation.

Need money? Got an offer in hand? Maybe. If you are employable elsewhere, go elsewhere. Dell cares more about using you to build the backbone for its tools that will eventually replace you than you. That could be prevalent elsewhere, but it is VERY obvious that it is the north star for Dell.

The money isn’t making up for the culture anymore, but in years past it was more balanced. If you need a good job, it’s still a good job, but it’s no longer an easy recommendation.
