Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Move to Apple if you can

I know many productive Q people went to Apple and they are in a happier workplace now. Better software guys (vs broken pensim, storage, and cloud management at Q), better managers (vs meeting-oriented at Q), competitive pay. If you wait until the next layoff like what I did, it would be too late. I was given additional bonus to stay, but was laid off later despite being a top performer. Don’t think you are safe just because you perform well and receive more bonus.

@11w Wan-Shi kindly disagrees. AR/XR see-through glasses will make an impact

Disagree with Apple. There is no innovation there anymore, just Tim milking the fanbois and trying to please Trump. Steve was visionary. What new products does Apple make? The VR glasses turned out to be overpriced disaster... Apple has no near or mid term future. No future at all if they won't change.

@ef That is why the BU concept was a poor decision.

You can have a great job a bad company, you can have a bad job at a great company. And it can flip around while you are there. There is no way to know.

apple, like q, is a stagnant company with very limited upside (if any). in these kind of companies, it's all just turf-war. Only in high growth companies (like nvidia and broadcom) are there good career path and growth.

Qcom is a dumpster fire! If you have the inkling of bailing and feel you have mobility, at least explore the opportunity.

Qcom is going nowhere but down with CA piloting the ship.

Apple is not a easy company to get a offer. Interview is extremely difficult and survival is not easy. But it is a much better company than Q.

The mail problem of Q is the leadership across management layers from VPs to CEO. No one is clear on execution, road map, and career path. Employees are very confused.

@a7 No one is trapping you there except yourself. So many bottom feeder complainers.

Qualcomm is a great place to build up skill sets for young engineers for few years. Then they should move on to big cap companies to get a bigger compensation.

AAPL is a very toxic place too.

Most Qualcomm engineers are trapped. No skill development beyond stealing other people's work and status collection.
