Walmart grocery discount for associates

Effective immediately associates are eligible to get their discount on groceries year round. It's true. It was posted on walmart Facebook page and I tried swiping my discount card last night on groceries and it worked.

Yes spot on. I have been on the teaming schedules for the last 4 years and my hours are cut to 37-39 hours a week. Team schedules hours are 40 a week, same off days. Make it make sense. Full and part timers are getting their hours Cut.

At the retailer's holiday preparation meeting in Houston today, U.S. CEO John Furner brought a Miami-area store manager on stage to announce that Walmart has extended its 10% employee discount to cover nearly all items year round. “All I can think is about my associates back home,” the manager said to a standing ovation, according to video viewed by The Wall Street Journal. “The associate pantry means everything to them because they don’t know how they are going to be paying their next meal, and now this is going to help,”

This should've happened way before the price increases. What's the average mark up now?

@ You are TOTALLY WRONG!! The extra holiday discount is GONE. THE EXTRA 15% is no more. Read it on the computer at Walmart. Funny thing is BOTH FULL AND PART TIME ASSOCIATES ARE GETTING THEIR HOURS CUT IN OUR STORE.
Some people are brainwashed. I’m informed. Check with your People lead or manager. I have the new policy and it clearly states. “Going forward, the food discount is now year round, and the single use 15% holiday discount will no longer be offered”.
get your facts right!! Some people will drink the Kool aid. After 32 hrs of employment I see exactly what is happening. More $$$$$ for the already rich corporate executives .

@az That’s completely untrue. They did not take away the extra holiday one time discount (the extra 15%). They did, however, expand the typical holiday discount on FOOD items to be all the time now. That’s a really great thing to do for associates.

There are valid reports of part time hours being cut to offset unscheduled overtime in some markets. Especially because store managers were told to hold overtime down to only isolated and necessary periods of time and staffing. But there have been no wide spread policies or actions to reduce full time associate hours at the stores. Just ignorant people trying stir some spiff up.

There’s a ton of ignorance littered within these posts, you have to use some common sense when reading.

If it sounds stupid, it probably is.

Nah, this has been in the works for a bit. It’s actually not meaningful at all to the bottom line and actually does something nice for associates.

Just wait, someone will say it’s to offset tariffs, which is not the case at all. This has been discussed for years, but right now, it’s a very cheap to implement retention move. Long overdue, for sure, though

It is funny how these perks are always announced right before bad news.
