Become Amish. You won't need so much
@d9 And I’m guessing that’s a national average. The average retirement saving in a tech career should be significantly more.
Retirement?! Who the he-l can even ever afford to THINK about that. Sorry to be negative truly, but I’m pushing 50 and am nowhere NEAR even thinking that retirement is a remote possibility. Makes me sick even allowing myself to entertain the idea bc it makes me realize how truly F’d so many of us are.
I did a little research on the average 67 year old and what they might have saved for retirement. Not good. Make sure you’re putting enough away. If you are over 60 and don’t think you have enough contact a financial advisor and see what you can do.
Retirement Savings (Retirement Accounts)
• For individuals aged 65 to 74, the median retirement account balance is approximately $200,000, and the average (mean) is about $609,230 .
These figures reflect retirement account balances overall—not specifically disaggregated by gender.
• Note that there’s a recognized gender pension gap—meaning on average, women tend to retire with lower retirement income than men—but available U.S. data does not provide a specific breakdown for 65‑year‑old men and women
I’m well past that target and heading to the door.
Adios, Adieu, See ya on the flip side.
