Here’s the reality. Most of us (if you have been at Cisco for 15-20+ years) have done ok. Your house is paid off, kids sent to college, you have had nice family vacations, maybe even bought a second home, and made a friend or two along the way. It’s been a good run, so let’s keep it in perspective in this crazy world we live in.

Gosh, gosh, gosh...this will get nowhere. Ya'll deserve every RSU and ESPP share you get, and also the shacking of staying.

Just go ask Chat this:

"How much would $1000 of Cisco stock, purchased exactly 25 years ago; be worth today? Likewise, how much of $1000 of S&P 500 index fund; also be worth today. Include dividends. How much more would one purchase choice be worth both dollar and percentage-wise?"

The response will be:

"The S&P 500 investment would be worth about $2,000–$3,000 more today, which corresponds to roughly a 300–400% greater return compared with Cisco."

You would do better with throwing darts at a board than investing in Cisco for 25 years.

Cisco stock price: December 29, 2000 = $25.03
S&P 500 index price: December 29, 2000 = $1,320.28

25 years ago was not December 29, 2000. Can you do the math with August 12, 2000 again, please.

PS: Cisco pays also a higher dividend than S&P 500.

@aa

hi duma$$, we don't get shares of the S&P 500 from Cisco - so yeah, we like it when Cisco stock go up.

By your logic, why invest in the stock market at all? If you had bought bitcoin in 2009, you'd be a gozillionaire now. How shortsighted of you to miss out on the bo-m. VERY SAD.

Many people here have already been LR'ed previously, they don't like any good news of cisco.

You would do better with throwing darts at a board than investing in Cisco for 25 years.

Cisco stock price: December 29, 2000 = $25.03
S&P 500 index price: December 29, 2000 = $1,320.28

Go ask ChatGPT:

If you had invested $1,320.28 in the S&P 500 on December 29, 2000, and held it until August 12, 2025, it would be worth $6,445.76.

If you invested $1,320.28 in Cisco (CSCO) stock on December 29, 2000, how much would it be worth today? $3,768.00

So just doing a simple, much less risky index fund, you could have made 171% more than Cisco.

DUH.

Too many people correlate stock price to layoffs. The market (typically) doesn't care much about layoffs one way or the other. They care about net revenue and future prospects. If layoffs get you there, okay. The "layoff" itself is rather meaningless.

@aa CSCO returning 426% over 25 years is not that bad given you get a 15% discount on the ESPP (if participate) and yearly stock grants (if you don’t su-k). “putting the same money into a simple S&P 500 index fund” is not an apples to apples comparison in this scenario. Sorry.

A sign the market is expecting the typical layoff. If Cisco doesn't lay off, it'll be in the 50's by Friday.

You're happy because you earn the same amount of money as you did 25 years ago.

How can you even think this is even remotely a good achievement?

If you invested ~$71 in the S&P 500; 25 years ago. It work be worth more than $650.

If you think Cisco stock has been a great investment, for the past quarter century, as compared to putting the same money into a simple S&P 500 index fund...wow; just wow.

Please feel free to provide an in-depth financial refute to the above common sense reality.

much of it is the result of buybacks . Have you seen https://www.tipranks.com/stocks/csco/buybacks ? You must be an id--t to believe this has anything to do with the product and leadership in the age of AI, Semis and Quantum
