Thread regarding VISA Inc. layoffs

Visa Office Strategy Announcement

Did anyone else feel let down by the office strategy announcement at the town hall? Aside from the Foster City remodel, there was no mention of other locations and no clarity on how teams will be impacted. They skipped over all the submitted questions. With this and the AI hype, all signs point to more people losing jobs.

@3jj yes, many higher levels are multi-millionaires (and also very often from privileged backgrounds), that have zero emotional understanding of the impact they are having on people less well-off.

Remember that if your company requires you to relocate across the country to be with your team, it’s not a layoff but a voluntary relocation. If you choose to leave instead of moving, it’s considered attrition and a cost reduction.

I feel like the people giving these presentation don't even know what it sounds like to speak honestly or to another human being that is real and not overly wealthy or deluded lol. They're at least 2-3 times removed from humanity and it shows.

Makes me wish Al Kelly was back because he seemed to have a soul, Ryan is clearly a zombie to even the most rot-brained of people, and same goes for Rajat and anyone else they let speak in Town Halls

They never said there won't be layoffs. They said the location plans weren't a layoff in disguise. Many companies have used location plans to reduce headcount without calling it a layoff.

The video they released to address questions was nearly as bad. Lots of maybes and we'll sees. It's like they spent so much time coming up with new names to brand the sites they forgot to come up with a plan to roll it out.

@ff+1k2fzqdgp There are rumors but the new location strategy, if you can call it that, and the heavy AI push are ominous. Perhaps we all need a higher Visa IQ to understand.

I noticed that the presentation included the usual justifications for returning to the office, but the speaker said that Visa is looking to increase its investment in real estate. I also noticed how often they excused the decisions being made by saying Visa is doing what other companies are doing.

The more I think about it, the clearer it is that I don’t know that I’ve seen a worse announcement presentation. They said they would make a clear announcement, spent 20 minutes talking about how the announcement would be clear, then made absolutely no announcement. They made references to lofty principles and broad ideas (including the renovation of the Foster City campus which was only a bareskin mockup of a cafeteria) and told us absolutely nothing. I don’t think they could have planned something worse. You’d think with a salary of over $10 million and how much they claim AI is capable of making their job easier they’d be capable of making a basic coherent presentation with at least 3 months of prep time. I guess that’s too much to ask of them though.

IDK, when the CPO loving describes Jersey and craps all over FC, it's not a great way to make everyone feel inclusive. Yeah, zero substance.

Honestly, what did they think they were accomplishing first with the email and then with the head of HR yammering for 20 minutes about how they were going to be “clear” about the upcoming changes but then saying absolutely nothing of any substance? They seem to have no idea how this makes tens of thousands of heads spin.

Between Saudi Arabia and China being highlighted for their client satisfaction, and no questions being answered about locations being tied to job families…it’s clear Ryan is about to unleash his inner Charlie Scharf

Agreed it added more ambiguity overall. My location was labeled opposite my job function which doesn’t feel great. Psychological safety is in the toilet in office today.
