Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What is the defect metro meme about?

Frequently mentioned here, but not at all clear what or why. Something unique about them compared to any other team? I don't get it...

Defmet most likely first to be replaced by Ai. I'd be getting far away from there..

Def met leadership has to go. They have a hand in our troubles today. If they caught some of these problems earlier on or reported and fixed them correctly our tech wouldn’t be the tu-ds they are today. All def met leadership should let go or demoted to nonmanagerial leadership positions

@cy You hid the punchline,

'In actuality the majority of these folks spend their days day trading, watching online videos, developing their second jobs, doing questionable activities on campus'

That is why DefMet gets mentioned, because they are overstaffed and spend their days online, FAFO on this site and others.

It's ok, LBT has a solution for that.

it's coming..

Serious answer:
Defmet exemplifies to factory engineering of what is wrong with Intel.

Detail:
Defmet engineers are bureaucrats - but they are indoctrinated that they are actually responsible for engineering the solution to every factory problem. Their role is basic data analysis and is ripe for AI to take over, and in a healthy company, this would be the first factory group to actually be automated away: this will not happen due to the structural issues at Intel. Defmet leaders are even farther removed from actually adding value; however, they sit in the program meetings every day and act as the face of solving defect/yield/excursions -- work actually done by the modules -- gets credited to defmet. Due to this, module engineers are taught from the beginning on how to lie and massage data to avoid getting pulled into daily meetings to defend their processes to clueless defmet engineers -- only to independently solve problems and then receive no credit for their work.

There is a broken engineering culture in defmet. The first line defmet engineers are clueless new grads where the standard operating procedure is to overwork them with data analysis (that should be done by automation/AI) and with meddling in modules they have no clue about until they quit within the first year -- these engineers actually have been some of the nicest and most earnest people I have worked with at Intel -- however, the ones that succeed past that first year by demonstrating aptitude for the pathology of their role, a group of midlevel defmet engineers and managers -- these are who the defmet memes target. They have fully automated their jobs - either through having the revolving door of recent college grads/techs do their work or by using the automation/AI tools available - but pretend to be slammed. In actuality the majority of these folks spend their days day trading, watching online videos, developing their second jobs, doing questionable activities on campus, or are honing their skills at inflating their self importance to perpetuate the cycle.

The RA4 fitness center showers are where the defmet leaders spend their onsite time.

It means defmet roles are largely insulated from layoffs. You’d need to cut about ten module engineers before a single defmet position would be affected. This also breaks the usual rule that job security tracks with proximity to wafers, since defmet roles largely don’t touch wafers. Outlier is the key word.

It’s weird that will all the jokes they haven’t been investigated or at least looked into. They remain as they were. Where there is smoke there is fire

They are professional day traders. 996 is the only antidote. This applies to all shittel employees though.
