Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Voted No On My Contract

Until my union does something to address the company forcing overtime and requiring doctors notes for a sick day I’ll be voting no on my contract. My union is such a joke now! Someone needs to hold their feet to the fire and make them do their job! It’s a sad state of affairs when we’re fighting for a forty hour week again and the union says they can’t do anything about it. They’re all bought off!

@ga That’s fine! I want to be there less and less anyway. There are so many critical rules now they can fire you any time.

Don’t worry. OT will soon be extinct until a contract goes in to effect. UP will take away your extra money until the contract gets ratified. We see it all the time.

Hinkle is forcing overtime. Gotta make Kirwan look good so he can go up the ladder! Eight hours a week per person. The management blames it on Jeremy Moore but it’s more likely just Kirwan trying to shine.

@bs "Where are they forcing overtime??"

They shut down Pocatello loco shop, got rid of machinists and electricians. Now there are 2 MSOs per shift responsible for all mainline trains, 2 separate locomotive servicing facilities, multiple RCL sets, everything in the yard, all originating power, building mid packs, plus all the computer work of monitoring and updating endless forms and sheets.

Over 200 hours of forced overtime in the last month or 2. Union chairmen just visited Pocatello and said to come together and step up, volunteer for more overtime. Basically gave management the ok to start forcing overtime on your days off.

@ac+1 The union didnt even get anywhere near giving any political figures a chance to do anything good or bad. The union sounded like paid advertisers claiming this contract was great, we kept telling them it didnt even get close to equivocating the previous contract and they had nothing to say. We complained this contract was not addressing the meal per diem that hasnt increased in over 30yrs and they claimed we would negotiate that later! Why wait? This contract shouldnt have even been brought up to a vote until the meal allowance was renegotiated. I dont care repub or dem, but have enough honor to blame the guilty for what they did. Dont blame those who have not harmed you for what you think they maybe might have done.

The Sick days, if you illiterate individuals could read. States that the carrier can and will ask for documentation. Its in there, you just need to learn how to read. As far as the contract is concerned, we had a better contract under the last District 19 PDGC than this one. All you id--ts who voted for Murdoch, voted for this contract. You bear the responsibility.

Just remember the contract a few years ago where it came down to strike at the 11th hour. Who used their power to keep us from doing that ....drum roll please. Joe Biden

Just wait till those union dues go higher now along with higher insurance, that tiny raise just got ate up. One step forward, two steps back every contract. Always was, and always will be. But hey the higher ups in the union enjoy their travels and Vegas conferences.

@ac Not sure I’m buying that. Some of the worst years working for this company were during the Biden presidency. Yes we got what looked like a good contract, but inflation ate it alive. What I see in my contract is that our issues with the carrier weren’t even brought up by the union. The union always has some sort of excuse for why they just can’t seem to negotiate and why we should accept our contract so they won’t have to do more. I’m tired of excuses.

Everyone I talked to in the signal dept, every zoom meeting across the system, far more people directly expressed a ‘NO’ vote on this contract. Oh so coincidentally this being the first time our vote was done electronically, our union claims it was 54% yes vs 46% no. I have no clue how this same union collectively went from ready to strike, fighting all the way to the PEB, to then in just a of couple years the same membership supposedly voting for this dismal, insulting contract? This doesnt make any sense! This contract doesnt even come close to equivocating the previous pay raise. It is unbelievable that our membership accepted the meaningless pittance of 3-ish% increase per year. We scared the carrier during the previous negotiations, we had momentum and were ready to fight. The carrier got out of the collective w/ the other carriers and did things different this time. The BRS leadership failed us.
