Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Optum takes the cake in burning people out

One day, studies will be done on how companies like Optum pushed people to the brink, taking over our lives, forcing us into impossible moral situations, and making us hate the company, the work, and the office. By the time they’re done with you, all you want is to crawl under a rock for a few years just to recover and remember what normal life feels like.

@a7 I hear you and I was fortunate to retire and start taking care of my health. Before I left I knew my job was going to shorten my life and just am not willing to give it to the company. There is something better for you out there.

Best lesson I ever learned was as a teen sweeping in a factory:

“The owners don’t care if you take your break or skip it.”

This is true at all levels. The moment you work over your hours or on weekends, they simply think less of you for being spineless and assign more work. It does not ever lead to a better bonus or raise than someone who does what they are told excellently during 8-6 hours.

The exception being the 0.5% of the company at the C level or on the cursus honorum towards one. I am positive that zero users of this website fit that criteria.

If I work over my hours you best believe it will be evened out by working less the next week.

Interesting idea, I can relate to much of that! They made me feel stupid to bust my a-s to impress MN managers that primarily valued yes men. Then I learned they were also stupid and I got even by working 30hr weeks and give myself the promotion I earned several times and the better raises I deserved every year! One percent raises are an attribute of a sweat shop, that’s what I learned. I’ll add to your list that maybe we’ll look back and see Optum management help resurrect Unions! Clean house in the C-suite and get the stock price back up!!

is that so you can work 2 hrs tomorrow and be done for the week or do you volunteer the only asset that matters to a company that probably has your name on a list to get rid of? Work will always fill whatever time you give it.
