Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Hoping for a LR/ER

I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping for a LR or ER announcement next week.

I’ve done my time, the kids are grown and off on their own, house is paid for, and investment accounts have done well the last few years.

The pay is too good to just walk away, bonuses and stock show up at regular intervals. I know how to do just enough to avoid a PIP and also still get mediocre raises every year.

It really would be a benefit to both me and Cisco to offer a decent separation package, also this would possibly save the job of someone younger in their career

I’m sure there are more than a few more like me out there.

You get raises? Clearly you don’t really work at Cisco.

The last ER 5 years ago and the LR were very similar packages. I know because I was offered the ER in 2020, and got the LR in 2024. May as well slum along with 2 hour work days and get some extra payroll before the LR bites.

I’m retiring early and getting the he-l out of here before it destroys my life and mental health. Put a bunch in 401k whilst I could so should be alright. Hope all you folks are ok.

@ad LR and ER packages are based on the employee's tenure and salary.

I; GTFO comment: Our "go away" package was like ten months after all said and done.

If they are doing two months - really? Pitiful. Not worth staying.

I; GTFO

Yep; got mine a good seven years ago. Life is very good. Life changing event to leave.

@cg

An ER will never happen because

because none of the people you actually want to leave will take the offer

An ER will never happen because it makes too much sense and doesn't create anxiety among the staff.

It would reduce cost by getting rid of high dollar resources
It would reduce the stress and anxiety of a LR since there is a high level of panic waiting for the "all clear" announcement
It would get rid of people who really don't care to be around anymore
It would open up positions and allow for promotions

I keep hearing the argument that in the past Cisco lost too much knowledge when these were offered, I would question how much those people are really contributing and how much is really lost. People just need to write better Circuit queries

And for all those reasons a logical ER won't happen

if you are really that set (good for you, I mean that), then why wait for LR? there is a good chance next LR will be something as pathetic as two months salary....as for ER, forget it, I doubt you will ever see Cisco do one again

It is a racket - employees want job and Cisco provides a means. But in return su-k the blood and make them lifeless with poor management and toxicity.

There will be fewer LRs in the future. The workplace will be made so toxic that folks will leave of their own accord and so will save the LR payout. Many ways they can do this, abolishing working from home, PIP more people, demand more, make manager more aggressive, targets higher, more disciplinary etc.

@a9 ever heard of reverse psychology? if they know that you want to leave then they will try to keep you.

Can someone from HR on this forum suggest to Chuck or Scott that they consider offering employee buyouts? This would give people an opportunity to voluntarily leave. Google, Cognition, and even the federal government have done this recently.

No ER, ever. Last time they did it, all the best employees took it and found another job the next day at other places.
