Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Transition from Microsoft to Google Applications will be a DISASTER

As someone who must use Excel and Power BI all day, everyday, this switch to Google is the final straw for me. First, Google Sheets is inferior to Excel. Second, I’ve spent hundreds of hours building Power BI reports, and now what? Poof, bye bye, figure out on your own how to convert everything to Google’s junk alternative to keep the day-to-day operations moving, because you know nobody in charge will offer guidance on technical stuff, just stupid FAQs like “will my email change? How do I open a Google doc?” Seriously? WTF, there’s going to be so many problems that nobody thinks all the way through. If anything, this change will wreck productivity! The knuckleheads are doing everything in their power to demoralize employees.

Sayonara!

Going the cheapest way will be costly, but Sammy the clown doesn't care. Another productivity hit that will eat at Sammy. So tone deaf.

I can already envision the email from Sammy: “We ANTICIPATED challenges from the operating system conversion, but the loss of productivity and sales is NOT ACCEPTABLE! You must use your Google Workspace effectively to COLLABORATE and figure this out. I would like you all to come into office 5 days a week to become experts with the new tools. Oh yeah, and by the way, tariffs, tariffs, tariffs, we must increase pricing again”

We have a lot of tenured people who will not adapt in their final years to yet another system. That may be the plan all along

Maybe Canon and Google will do a deal and use Canon imaging technology in a new smart phone. We are already using Googles building for our office in Irvine. Easier transition when our whole company is on google workspace. Who knows, Maybe Google will takeover Canon. We’ll then be Googlers. One can hope, right?

Agreed, all of the legacy reporting will not work within a Google Chrome environment. This will be absolutely crippling and not allow certain employees to function at all. Sammy the Clown does not care. He just wants to save money and give the facade that he is doing something innovative and being a brave risk-taker. In reality, this is a way to force people out voluntarily, or use the employees’ lack of productivity as justification to lay them off. “Hey, you can’t do any work for us anymore? We don’t need you. Your job has been eliminated.”

Google is cheaper, that's literally the only reason. They're perfectly willing to (apparently) make everything harder and less efficient to pinch a few pennies on the front end. Meanwhile, Sammy announced a 10% drop in revenue for July, year-over-year and the solution is to waste everyone's time converting to and learning a new operating system. Can't wait to sit in the office watching training videos and converting data instead of, ya know... working.
