Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

In-Office antics

The guy by me comes in, spends 1-2 hours in the office and leaves again. Stuff like this is going to ruin it for everyone. It’s played out like that before, remember Walt having a conniption fit about not doing what you say you’ll do, then making sweeping changes to remote work?

There’s no doubt these badge in/badge out people played a role in RTO4 happening.

@2qt We can get reports with name, ID, date, in time, out time and location/gate. There have been roll up reports with more than x days of M, W, Th not in office, but as managers we have to reconcile that with vacations, sabbaticals and other items. Many of us have not bothered and have not supported RTO beyond not saying anything outside of team announcements. For my team it is individual accountability and I don't care where work is done, but they know I cannot protect them either.

They can tell if you swipe in and out - they can't tell when.

@29e And why should they? Their reward is go back in the office and oh, yeah, you now pay for gas? Well, pay cuts, benefit cuts, cut it all except the EC and the board. These companies deserve 0-1 minute of work. F**k them!

Office workers aren't doing much work, whether at home or "in" the office.

There are entire subreddits dedicated to bragging and making fun of every company imagineable - playing video games, using mouse movers to appear busy while "working" from home, doing zero-15 mins of work a day.

They were always going to force us back to the office regardless of people "following their commitments" and if you think otherwise you're just another useful id--t blaming your peers for the actions of your corporate overlords.

Some offices don’t even have a way to badge out… the last time I went to the office, the AC was broken so I left after the primary event. Going to the office is d-mb.

@jj
A bidet is an alternative to toilet paper. Common in Europe and South East Asia. It cleans your a-s by spraying water.

I’m getting away with it until I can’t anymore. Played by the rules and got nothing for it :) the culture here is atrocious. Like, incredibly bad for my mental health to be in the office. Sterile, cliquey, everything behind a disgusting veneer of Schwab nice mixed with the most blatant passive aggression you could see.

The pay almost makes it worth it, but barely. the only way I can survive is to truly stop caring about my job, clients, or people I work with. Not caring about my job means 5 hour days until I’m reprimanded, then bare minimum moving forward.

Schwab is ALL about appearances. It doesn’t matter if you actually care, do a good job, etc. what matters is that you are a yes man, never bring up concerns, lie to clients, lie to coworkers, and have a half smile and glazed eyes that nod approvingly at whatever leadership says. Leadership has only “hinted” at counting hours, and never told me exactly how many I need to be in the office.

I don’t know how anything gets done here. I see software engineers on their phones all day, YouTube, insta, so does any work get done by those teams?

remember Walt having a conniption fit about not doing what you say you’ll do

Are you referring to no changes to RTO white right-sizing security and custodians with people successfully working from home (as they had in the largest merger in FinServ history), no layoffs or both?

They're going to do it no matter what, so why not drag our feet whenever possible?

They were planning RTO4 for a long time. You could see in Rick's speeches early in the year. This is just a boiling frog tactic. The fact you are gullible enough to believe it is because of people who badge in for part of the day just shows why people at this company lack any form of intelligence or competance.

I ADORE those clips of Walt melting down like a toddler. I should compile a mashup of all of them for posterity.
