Thread regarding ViacomCBS layoffs

When the restructuring hits, performance won’t be a factor in who stays

Haven’t we learned anything from the previous rounds of layoffs? It’s always been, and still is, all about the bottom line. You can be valuable, skilled, reliable, hardworking, uniquely creative, and still be let go just as easily as someone fresh out of college. Worse, having all those qualities and years of experience might actually make you more of a target. It’s all about money, and money saved through quick, short-sighted fixes.

@aj You're correct. For many years, when I was under the CBS division, the managers were always allowed to bring in their outside cronies for employment, so why would they not be allowed to apply favoritism in deciding who stays or goes? I can assure you that hard work and dedication mean nothing in the end.

@aj Yes and no. So far none of the cuts have been you need to get rid of x people. It's been you need to cut X dollars.

The problem is it’s all subjective. We may think we are doing a good job but your manager might have a different opinion. In addition if they are told they need to get rid of 3 people they will choose the people they like to keep.
