I’m beyond frustrated with how hard it’s gotten to find remote roles lately. I would leave in a heartbeat if there were solid WFH options out there. It's like we’re being shoved back into offices just to make landlords happy.

What about the Jersey City location? Do they have to RTO4/5 to the Midtown Manhattan NYC office?
@wn yeah so great that they’ll have no chance in promotion or lateral move unless they move to corporate location.
Thankfully St Louis gets to work from home full time.
@s4 Absolutely, the grass truly is greener when you leave Schwab. Everyone I know who has left Schwab and found new roles with other companies say that they feel whole again, and this is no exaggeration. As if their soul was becoming poisoned the longer they stayed.
@s3 Great point! I can actually see that sort of setup working, where primarily remote teams meet up for an offsite every quarter or so.
@n2 this right here. Got my certs and CCNA and got in with a big tech in 6 months worth of work. They do 16 weeks pto per year and fully remote.
@fx The old statement, "The grass isn't greener on the otherside " isn't true if you've worked at an in the toxic environment. The grass is greener anywhere else. (Thanks for letting me vent too)
@fx Agree, but there are companies with remote jobs and fly their teams to meet once a quarter. I worked remote for decades- you do not have to see people, nor on webex/teams (we didn't even have webex/teams in the 'old days') to build relationships or a high performing well oiled machine.
Here's how Schwab should handle remote days, based on tenure (reward those with greatest tenure):
- After working for 1 year= 1 day remote
- After working for 5 years = 2 days remote
- After working for 10 years = 3 days remote
- After working for 15 years = 4 days remote
- After working for 20 years = Fully remote! If 20 years of loyalty can't win trust of employer, then that is just sad.
Plenty of Remote Roles are out there. If you can up skill and crack the interview. These jobs will definitely pay more than what schwab pays for an STS tech role.
I'll give you one example : https://www.github.careers/careers-home/jobs
You should have up skilled and left yesterday but you are still thinking about leaving tomorrow. That's the actual problem.
Leave.
To those looking for a new job, honestly, I think a remote role is not preferable. You want that new job to at least be hybrid so that you can see the new people you are working with. And the people at that new job will want to see and get to know you too. For new roles, remote-only only works if you are like an hourly consultant providing vendor services. If you want to be treated like a full-time employee, you do need to be in the office sometimes, at least in a hybrid format. In my opinion, remote-only in a full-time role only works in a job that you had pre-Covid, where everyone went to the office everyday, got to know each other very well, and then were all pushed to work from home during Covid. Starting a new full-time role as fully remote is not ideal for the employee or the employer.
I would also say, it would make onboarding a lot more awkward, to be doing all of that remotely.
The real issue at hand is getting away from Schwab. That's what you really want to do. You would be happy to accept a hybrid role if only you could get away from Schwab's toxic and corrupt working environment. For e.g., I now have a hybrid role that I am thrilled about, as I am now in a healthier environment, although I'm still working to shake off all of the toxicity from my time at Schwab.
Employees are being treated like zygotes. UNFAIR!!!
Personally I'd rather be unemployed than go back commuting to an office every day. I haven't been on campus since 2020 and the day they tell me I need to return or else is the day I will be done with Schwab. If I can't find another remote job then oh well, I'll just need to go on public assistance. It'll be less than my Schwab salary but I'll survive. If enough of us do the same then companies will be forced to open up WFH again.
Then go in!
I quit
@as Those companies treat folks the same
Schwab isnt a tech company. Stop comparing it to FAANG and it will be easier to understand why they treat employees the way they do.
Remote jobs are over, make your peace with it.
do you have the golden handcuffs with too high of expenses to take a pay cut for a remote role? I'm planning on taking a pay cut to take a remote role when the change comes into effect
