When did it hit you that no paycheck is worth giving up your whole life? I used to think the grind would pay off, but now I just feel drained.

Get out if you can.
It hit me about 2 weeks in to my first job when I was 16.
The old saying is “you work to live, not live to work” is incredibly important to always remember. We all need money to have the life we want. On your death bed someday, you will not wish you had worked more. But I also don’t think there are shortcuts to a career that makes good money. If you find a job that pays well AND pays well then you will have won the lottery. But short of winning the lottery, I would advise you to work hard enough to achieve financial security but otherwise focus on living a fulfilling life.
You have to wait for AI to see if it going to get worse for the population. How do you know if it successful? When companies start to crow about how efficient their workforce has become and you continue to see more layoffs.

This may be a phase in Tech. It happened in early 2000s. Hopefully we come out on the other side but the only wild card now that we have to wait for is AI.
