Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

D is for Dysfunctional

Dell technology strategy is very broken. The business units don’t talk to one another and end up tripping over each other in a fight to remain relevant - there is no unification. Every acquisition is butchered. VMware could have been amazing and recovered the companies private cloud opportunity, but instead it was treated as a quick money making exercise. Now broadcom are laughing and actually doing something with it. And the ultimate middle finger? They’re turning off powerflexs ability to work with esx at kernal level.

Another laughable mention:
Dell: Let’s sell storage products on top of public cloud provider.. customers: No thanks, public cloud storage works well and integrates better. Dell: what about backup then? Customer: no thanks, your products are antiquated

Customers want solutions and not a collection of adhoc products that are each being built in a vacuum.

Cloud providers are eating Dell's lunch. It has been for a long while. Onsite storage has become an after thought for some companies. They will talk about putting everything to the cloud then talk about whatever is left for onsite. Cloud providers may not be cheaper but they are definitely perceived as being easy to setup and run.

@a4 The PowerFlex thing is from VMW. Supposedly they’ll work on a way to bring it back but may through a common API, not direct kernel module.
