Thread regarding VISA Inc. layoffs

What does layoff look like at Visa?

Is it a phone call? A Teams call with your manager and HR? Or you get locked out of your computer right away with no notice?

Can someone share what one might expect?

I had a Teams meeting put into my calendar with my manager out of the blue. When I dialled in there was a HR person already there. The HR person then read from what seemed like a prepared script. It was very mechanical and brutal, you should not expect to be treated with any human dignity. I was given a months notice (I was in the UK) with severance on top of that. I actually ended up taking sick leave during my notice period due to the stress and shock of it.

In hindsight, I did recall my manager being unusually cold with me in the week leading up to the call. I didn't twig it at the time that was my "warning".

When my org was hit middle managers didn't know until it was happening. A VP or Senior Director did the calls along with HR. Other than that it was the same as what other said. If you get an invite that includes HR and someone above you start packing.

It's a call with your manager (a regular weekly call for me) where they then dial in somebody from HR unexpectedly, all scripted. All pretty sterile, treated as somebody said, as a number.

Beyond what was mentioned earlier, depending on the office, you might notice certain signs during layoff week. For example, if you see people who are usually not with HR or an SVP who rarely visits the office suddenly there all day, it’s often a sign that something is about to happen.

The layoff process itself is very structured, almost like following a script, because well, we are all numbers

@OP it’s a Teams call with your Managers boss and HR. If you suddenly have your managers boss set up a teams meeting out of nowhere your cooked. Then the boss drops and HR explains your package then you only have an access for a couple of hours after the call. Unless it’s negotiated that you work through your 60 day notice period. Hope that helps!
