Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Beware icarus and don't fly too high. You will fail.

So I like a lot of other high cl employees was piped. I got my cl bump last year and was told I deserved it blah blah. So more money and more expectations from me. I was ranked good last year but nsi this year. Tge reason was I did not find anyone or anything to mentor. I worl in a bubble and only interact with affiliates and outside testing labs. My interactions with exxon personnel is limited. The young engineers avoid me like the plague because they are intimidated by me. I asked to be moved to a management role but was denied. I am to be a technical mentor or sme. I wish I could have remained at my old cl. So now I havecyo decide whether to retire to or try the pip. The pip if I pass would get me a few more years. So beware the tale of icarus and don't fly to high or you will fall to your death. Another employee got moved into a high profile project and was made the scapegoat. Everything that went wrong was blamed on him. He was piped this year too. So beware of exxon bearings gifts too. There are lots of games being played by exxon on the employees right now.

@OP You should read the story again.

Spoiler: the issue wasn’t how high he flew. It was how he bound the feathers of his wings.

The real moral of the story is that you can fly as high as you like as long as you’re properly prepared.

Happened to me. So I retired, 30 years was enough; now every day is a vacation for the rest of my life. May I live a very long time forever.

It's preprogrammed in the EM MPT system. Usually happens going from CL27 to 28. Get a nice bump up in salary treatment and then sink like stone in the rankings. It's just Exxon working there system, it's not you. Enjoy the extra money for now and bouncing along bottom third. Next will be NSI first year you're NRE, like clockwork. Good luck, invest well and take the time to develop a plan for the next phase if your life

You will find that your management intentionally promoted you to be the bottom NI/NSI group so that the managers could survive another day.

This often happens when you make the jump from CL-27 to CL-28/29.
