Thread regarding Optum layoffs

CEO / SH Email

The email All but explicitly said there will be more layoffs, right?

Morale is in the tank at my team. We heard folks under our org were laid off and our manager never said a word, only found out through the grape vine.

Past 3 or 4 projects that Ive witnessed in ETIPS org have failed and been cancelled.

Every team that we interact with is also completely checked out and not even trying to make a working product.

AI + Offshore strategy "works" until theres severity 1's and security is a leaking row boat thanks to ESRO heavy handed mandates.

@cs No respected engineer or tech leader would use a quote from Mark Zuckerberg given the level of training and expertise that is free given through open source, blogs, education and sharing from thought leaders.

Oh well, explains why the quality is less than zero for everything Sandeep D Chief Digital & Technology Officer is a mess. Look at Facebook/Meta with all of their scandals and fake profiles and fake videos and bad security. Repeating quotes means no originality which equates no innovation.

@a5 UHG Executive Vice President , Chief Digital & Technology Officer Sandeep D. is a poor choice for CTO of any sort. He is just using the mindshare of what is left of the TLP that has been dismantled.

@a5 move fast and break things only works when you have very competent engineering teams. They don’t attract top talent even in India. They try to get bargain deals on engineers and they end up getting what they pay for.

What part are you in that you are seeing layoffs? You said "projects" so wonder if you are in Optum Advisory or something else? Maybe you are in tech side of the house? Just wondering if I should start looking over my shoulder. Thanks for insights.

What do we think will happen to the RCM people with these big hospital systems as their clients? Most of the clients if not all revenues going down like the titanic.

@av which assets do you think will be sold?

@a5 Candy is still here because the business has goofed up more than tech has. Shady acquisitions in south america (for the love of god, why?), billions written off, clinics, long term care and hospices acquired with juiced up books, all liabilities and no margins. Overreliance on MA and extreme gouging with shady programs like housecalls. Ofcourse tech has added to the costs, shady vendor deals with rando tech startups, hyper cloud strategy that just piles on costs but not the scale the business has goofed up. No amount of layoffs is going to fix this, selling assets is what will keep them floating in the short term.

Don’t worry they cleared house with those negligent people in ESRO … Nico being one of them but his team still exists… taco Trevor will still have tantrums. But you are right, this company suddenly got stale.
Innovation is limited if it’s just funded in India!

Optum Health was the bummers in this game. They the nurses who do reviews just aren’t producing. So they lost 7 percent revenue. They also get paid a lot. More than all the senior analyst and customer service people. Managers making over 100,000 and more. They can get rid of at least 1000 nurses once OCM is automated and ship the RN oversight if needed to Philippines

@OP On UnitedHealth Group post: J R e x President & CFO fired on Tuesday with “resignation” announcement coming.

I am surprised Candyman is still here. For those still asking who is Candy/Candyman/Mr 100x lookup Chief Digital & Tech Officer on Sparq org chart. He reports to R e x & leads Optum Tech.

AI & Cloud seems to result in many more outages than when we relied on our company owned on premise 2 data centers. Plus, the cost of using Google GCP, Amazon AWS & MS Azure cloud & AI is astronomical. AI & cloud services seem to cost 100x compared to on premise, so of course they gut on shore to pay for these huge costs. These costs will continue to grow.

Candyman wants India staff to lead on AI & do most of the work, so there is no future in Optum Tech for onshore resources. P1 outages will continue. The quality isn’t there. Mr 100x is part of the problem. “Move fast and break things” doesn’t work for healthcare.

We are on a sinking ship. We can’t sell and can’t innovate. Only way to raise the stock price is layoffs and stock buybacks. Just my opinion. Good luck!
