Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Institutional Complacency

It’s easy to become comfortable and risk-averse. Over time, you may start to rationalize staying despite knowing the culture or direction isn’t aligned with your values or goals.

@a8 Saying, "I spend the majority of my workday playing video games, taking my dog for walks, naps, netflix and other fun things while I work. Sometimes I even go into meetings while im literally in the pool lol." Then, following it with, "But, I do work hard..." No, you don't. Stop lying to yourself. Good for you for getting paid to play video games and binge Netflix, but some people actually work hard and will be let go (not from their pool).

I've been w/ Dell for 7 years now and, despite most people here... I LOVE my fkng job. It's easy (for me,) its fun, I love who I work with and even for. I have good benefits and a ton of PTO. I can take tomorrow off right now if I want and it'd be approved. No metrics or micro-management, etc etc etc... In all honesty? I spend the majority of my workday playing video games, taking my dog for walks, naps, netflix and other fun things while I work. Sometimes I even go into meetings while im literally in the pool lol.

But, I do work hard and have built a name for myself and get my sh-t done. I'm just not in a job that requires a solid 8 hour "work" day.

That being said lol... I sometimes wish I hated my job because I'd be more apt to find a new one. One that pays a lot better. One that actually isn't holding onto promotions. One that isn't still living as if we are in a GD pandemic and travel is possible. Conferences are possible.

Dell needs to see the light and understand that while they want to reduce headcount to under 100k, in the process of doing so they are going to be left with a company filled with mornoic employees who are just happy to have a job but don't know how to do that job. All the people who actually know how to do the job, will either be laid off or have found a much better job in the meantime.
