It is, after all, an Indian company with offices here in the U.S., so why do you think this is so strange?
He is clearly using present and future tense, meaning the firings and layoffs are still to come.

If you are old, white, male, or (non-indian) asian or recently received an SDP explaining severance, you are on the chopping block.
