Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

Reduced severance

Is it true that our severance is being cut to 1 week for every year served, no more than 10 weeks total?

There are rumors of going from 3 weeks to 1 week. If and when they will implement is unknown.

The price of oil went down, profits went down. The leadership spent the remaining profit on share buybacks instead of a legitimate investment, the downward spiral around the bowl continues. Cost savings aka. firing will continue.

Up to ten weeks is the severance that is in the SPD book and has been that way since before 2006. Clearly, that hasn't changed.

I think that you are confusing severance with the settlement package. Generally, Shell has been offering a settlement package in times of layoff or in cases where you are made redundant. You sign saying you won't sue for a whole host of ills and you get 3 weeks per year of service... ( there are a couple of other benefits but the money is the biggest benefit to me.) Shell does not offer the settlement when someone is terminated for cause or voluntarily resigns.
In theory, Shell can change the settlement higher or lower at will.
