To the previous poster. Yes, company needs to make a profit. But don't you think it's a little shady that every quarter it was expressed by senior management that Canon was making a huge profit and everything was on plan. But yet, their deception or sugar-coated cheerleading left many bewildered when the layoffs came.

What don't you cry baby understand, the complaint on this site is more or less about how "shady" senior management is and how they push fake news to the employees. People just want treated with some level of dignity and not be let go on a team's call at a customer.

@f1 Correct, remember Sammy says, “Profit First!” in the corporate newsletter. He doesn’t even pretend to hide his motives.

Layoffs, I feel are DEF coming... The outsourcing, the lack of work left for employees to actually do (basing this on my location) the financial numbers aren't great, the sales are tanking, the higher ups do not care about us.. For most, this will come as no surprise.... Profit over People..

A good leader would put rumors to bed by unequivocally stating that there are no layoffs planned. By keeping quiet, it’s obvious that the CEO is keeping his options open and is just waiting for an excuse or something to trigger him off his rocker to go full nuclear mode and blow stuff up even more.

With the 15% tariff deal with Japan now in place (19% for Indonesia), there is a decent chance more layoffs could come at the end of Q3, depending on if Canon decides to eat some of that additional 5% from where the tariffs had been since April, or raise prices again.

Also, logic would expect the company to (again) be a sad little trend-follower and demand a full 5 days in-office, expecting the 10%-15% attrition in headcount associated with those moves. That way they wouldn't have to pay out severance packages and they can blame the reduced productivity on those who stay, resulting in lower annual raises.

Corporate America always with its underhanded tricks where only the shareholders and c-suite execs matter. The employees never will.
