With AI doing most of work, no need for a middle managers. They loose jobs coming earnings date just like at Amazon, Microsoft, Intel, Google, Meta…..
Managers and directors will soon find out if they still have jobs… oh, they fell off the cliff.
If you’ve been at Cisco less than 10 years, move on. It is stressful and it isn’t worth mental health. The severance package doesn’t have a kicker of extra $$ until after 10 years of service. (In the US)
If the stress is getting to you the payout isn’t worth it. Cisco will eat you from the inside out.
Just do your job, and if you're on the list, you're on the list. There are no tips, tricks, or advance notifications if you're on the list. The more you fret about it, the more it affects your mental well-being. You have no control over it. Again...just do your job and find a distraction to focus on.
From my decades of experience at Cisco, an annual restructuring/layoff is normal and to be expected. You may or may not avoid one if your business unit is strong or expanding. I did see a layoff in my business unit when it was expanded. Management shifted jobs overseas.
As some suggest, Cisco is not a good match for those who are uncomfortable with annual restructuring/layoffs. This is ingrained in Cisco culture. Cisco usually ranks high on great places to work but the annual layoff is flagged as one of the few negatives.
I have not seen any 6 months layoffs except for 2024. A mid fiscal year layoff may happen in a poorly run business unit with bad forcasting which is more of an exception. Something more frequent than 6 months is a sign of poor management and likely, a fading business unit.
A six month layoff is definitely a bad sign but the annual layoff is the norm. I would consider it very unusual not to have one.
We'll let you know on August 13th. Still shuffling at this point.
Stop whining and start selling!
All of these questions are premised on shaky rumors bring true. Sheesh.
look at @be+1k0x9d3ad and @a8+1k0x9d3ad you will know if are already a target or not.
Technology workers need to live their lives like they are on a military deployment: there is no guarantee of long-term survival in your role, and you must stay sharp, adaptable, and ready for change.
Restructuring and layoffs, while uncomfortable, are opportunities to toughen up those who have become complacent or lack optimal motivation. This mindset builds resilience, drive, and self-sufficiency traits that will serve you well across your technology career.
If you find you cannot handle this framework of constant readiness, accountability, and uncertainty, it may be worth considering a different career field better aligned with your expectations.
“ If you're in Meraki, good help you.” Asking in good faith, why?
Didn't let the stress get to you. It won't get better any time soon as other posters have stated.
Observationally, if you are in a product area Cisco has high hopes for and now you're just doing OK, you're in the splash zone. If you're in Meraki, good help you.
if you are stressed out by the threat of layoffs, Cisco is the wrong place for you
the future for this company, at least for the next few years, is layoffs approximately every eight months
most hiring done to fill in the gaps will be done in lower-cost locales overseas
it will probably be like this until 2028-30
and that's assuming no deep recession - if we get one of those, it will be even worse
This is nothing new and understandable. Cisco has laid off employees every six months. Now more so for AI and work efficiency. List is large.
