New H1B Process

Heard a major change to the H-1B visa process by replacing the current random lottery with a weighted selection system that prioritizes high-wage applicants. This would significantly reduce chances for lower-paid H-1B roles, especially those from staffing and vendor firms. While the rule is still under review and not yet finalized, it could go into effect as early as FY 2026/7. U.S. graduates and applicants with directly related degrees may gain preference, while H-1B hiring overall could face tighter restrictions. Extensions and transfers may be affected, but details are still pending.

Citi is one of the top banks who hire H1B through middlemen hiring. It has hired more than Tech giants. Here is the report:
