@ak I think Ireland has a slightly higher cost of labour than Mexico and India.

If you live in the USA, promotions are going to be ultra rare. Why give a deserving US employee a promotion when they can give 10 employees in India a promotion?

I asked my director about this not long ago and they basically said that US promotions are quite rare as they get a "bigger bang for the buck" by promoting those in countries that make less.

A 10-30k promotion in the US is equal to promoting an entire TEAM in India, Ireland, Mexico, etc.... It's cheaper, more cost effective and like I said, "bigger bang for the buck."

Go search the internal job search and see how many jobs are available in the US that are a level above yours. There likely is either none or a a very very small amount, but the majority are for those in other countries..

Most Dell managers don't promote via the "bucket" they get for raises. They promote via REQs available to them. Meaning that, if a manager wants to promote xyz during merit increases, and that promotion is worth say 30k, then that's 30k worth of money taken away from EVERY person on their team in regards to raises.

Long story short, don't hold your breath on promotions. Start looking elsewhere because Dell is now a company in which career growth is virtually impossible in the US.

They recently interviewed someone wanting a role on my team after already making an offer to someone they had hand selected.
