Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

How does Edward Jones handle employees that have an external job offer?

I'm essential to my team and have been waiting for a promotion for ~1.5 years. I'm about to get an offer for +50K, which would necessitate me to go from an 11 to a 13. I'm wondering if EJ would even remotely consider making a realistic counter offer, mostly out of curiosity.

Anyone have any experience similar to this?

@1c9 the technology, business model and product lineup are 25 years behind the times. That didn’t start in 2019.

Leave…the Class of 2019 and all her new GPs and associates have ruined the firm and will never return to what is was. Penny’s divisiveness, lack of awareness, and greed have destroyed this place. She starts in 2019, 2,700 home office and hundreds of FAs leave by July 2020, they then hire across the country ingnorant leaders and associates, the loss of tacit knowledge the 2,700 had is gone, the slowdown and below “par” time it takes to complete decisions lies in the past 6 years. She created the home office dilemma and is now laying off people because of it.

I recently left. I asked my leader and and GP to simply say I was safe and I would stay. Neither were willing to do so and flat out said my position wouldn't be backfilled. I was in a role already working 60 hours a week for months. You do you but don't expect anyone right now to beg you to stay.

I gave less than two weeks notice and continued to work through my notice period. I went to a competitor. My leader marked me as eligible for rehire. The speediness of your departure is exclusively up to your leader to decide.

Just make sure any bonus, profit sharing, or 401k match is in your account before you give notice, in case your experience is different than mine.

I had about $50k in LP. My capital was returned to me within a month + any gains that I had not realized YTD.

Edward Jones is an incredibly difficult place to leave by choice, but I promise you that a career on the “other side” is not nearly as daunting as it seems while you’re shackled to the firm.

Take the offer and expect to lose system access the day you give notice, especially if you're moving to a competitor.

@d1 agreed. Conventional wisdom about counter offers is that they don’t end well. Even if they match your offer you have revealed you were looking to leave and they won’t forget it. Either the issues that caused you to want to leave will recur in your new role and you’ll leave or they’ll can you at the first opportunity because you’re seen as a flight risk who forced their hand.

OP - no offense but it feels you are naive about the corporate world. Maybe you have spent all your career only at EJ?
Nobody is essential or indispensable, particularly at times like what the firm is going through now.
It would be stupid to have expectations they they will counter offer a $50k raise. At most, EJ will play games to find a replacement in a few weeks and then get rid of you.
Sorry if my message sounds harsh. Just want to make sure you don’t shoot yourself in the foot.

Please take the other offer. Don't waste your time playing what-if games.

Think about it. If you were so underpaid in your current role and nobody cared enough to stand up for you to get a promotion, why would you expect them to pay you your worth? Especially in a time when they're looking to shrink the workforce? Because they could absolutely counteroffer while they find your replacement and then give you an ISP.

Give your two-week notice. Celebrate. Don't look back.
